look what I found in my sump

Recommended Posts

Hi Chaps,

As you'll see from my chassis change thread I am onto the engine..

Removed the sump... All nice and clean... no sign of thrust washers... However 3 peices of metallic debris..

Two tiny nuts and a chunk of alloy (see picture)..

Any thoughts on where they may have come from?

Cheers

tim

Had a look at the oil pump. All bolts present. Have receipts for a fairly major rebuild in 1988. Included new camshaft. Perhaps from that.

Not sure there should be any nuts like that inside the sump. Could it be that someone has chucked assorted items into the sump when the engine was apart at some time in the past and forgot to remove them before putting the sump back on?

As for the alloy debris it's a bit mangled to tell - could be old bearing shell, oil pump casing or even a bit of piston skirt, again assuming it actually originated in the engine.
