brianking59
I want to replace my heavily scrached door windows. Is it possible to tap the bottom channel off whilst supporting the lower edge of the glass thus saving the fiddly business of removing the regulator mechanism?
RobinTR6
Ummmmm, I doubt it although depends how well its held in. Getting it back in without at least undoing the regulator(yes you can leave it in the door) is possible albeit fiddly...watch your door paint (dont ask how I know)
boxofbits
I think you would struggle. You need to ensure they are clamped and bonded in place properly. You should ensure that the glass is also in the correct positions when raised and lowered
peejay4A
Definitely not. The channel will be well stuck so you'll have to remove it from the door. Then you'll have enough room to swing a hammer and a block of wood at the channel to remove it from the glass because it will be well stuck to the glass. RogerH
Hi Brian, You really do have to remove the glass/regulator,weather strips etc to get the bottom channel off.. If you are lucky the channel will still be in good condition. Sometimes they are as rusty as bu99ery. Roger
AlanT
On a 4A you could definitely disconnect the lower channel from the regulator arms. There are weedy little clips that don't hold very tight. You would only have to remove one of the top weather-strips and then tip the glass up at the rear corner and slide it up. It might go between the strips with a bit of wiggling. Worth a try because fitting these strips ain't all that easy. Before you knock the channel off, draw around it, so you can fit the glass in exactly the same place. Or take the opportunity to optimise the glass fit against the screen-frame. Put some cloth or wood in the door bottom in case you let go of the glass when refitting. Its quite easy to let it fall. Edited August 7, 2014 by AlanT
