Does anyone else find they can move their distributor cap slightly when it's in situ? It's almost like the spring clips holding it down are the wrong width or not strong enough. It doesn't seem to affect the car's running but I'm just nervous it's going to do something unpredictable. This is on a 1981 4-pot by the way.

Yes, I've noticed that too.

 

It won't move far as there is a locating peg - even with the original type blue Lucas caps.

And an absolute pain to adjust without prehensil fingers and hands and a special spanner :o:)

It won't affect the ignition timing, and it's been like this on thousands of cars for up to 30+ years. Relax and and enjoy your motoring in the summer weather, your car will tell you when something needs fixing !
