Depends on the size of your wallet and if you wish to retain your internal organs.

Can you do some work yourself?

Many places to go if you have unlimited funds?

Budget?

Power requirement?

Supply own engine or outright purchase?

Full engine dyno tested with carbs etc ready to fitted?

Fitted and dyno'd on the car.

Many things to think of and establish as your request is a bit vague.

I would however suggest talking to Peter Burgess Engineering as a first class down to earth and honest guy. No connection just happy bunny!

As Rod said you need to be much more specific or it will only lead to disappointment.

If the car is to be used on the road it will be horrible in race engine form depending upon how developed it is, if used on race tracks is it in a particular series or do you just want fun on track days ?

These sort of decisions need thinking about and a brief given to whomever you choose to build your engine, agree with Rod though about Peter Burgess at Automotive Power Engineering. He's developed and ground 3 x TR Championship winning 4 cylinder heads in a TR4 for me and 3 x TR Championship winning Rover V8 pairs of heads in a TR7, he's a very down to earth engineer and has a well developed head grinding business complete with rolling road. Lots of the TR specialist use him and also various other makes including MGBs and he has a list of Championship wins with those also. I don't believe he does complete engines but as a head man he is excellent.

BB,

I have to say that even a change of cam can make a TR extremely unpleasant to drive, so the choice is really, do i WANT TO TRAILOR A RACE CAR, or do I want a usable car that I can have fun on a track day.

Are we talking upgraded gearbox to modern Toyota?

Are we talking upgraded axle with a LSD?

Are you prepared to butcher the inner wings to fit Webers or Dellortos with air box?

Are we talking ultimate race winner or competitive or also ran?

Are we talking track or Rallycar?

So you see, lots to think about.

even more regards

Rod

Sorry mate but your question is not answered as simply as you appear to think. Horses for courses and expensive doesn't necessarily mean the best.

Quote "I want a good thorough job but I want to keep all my limbs" indicates that you wish a job that doesn't break the bank hence our comments but I'm sure that you will find someone to assist and relieve you of your hard earned. Given that doing the job yourself with a half decent road engine could cost £3-4k depending on spec.

Good luck with your search for a unicorn !

you are all very kind but really I just wanted the name of a recommended TR race engine builder rather than an open discussion on what I may or may not need spec wise - thank for the input though

Racetorations have a good rep on this forum, so does RevingtonTR. And there are more UK based engine builders. But in the end first thing they're going to ask you, are the same questions as written above.

Pm the Brighton Boy he has the answers

That made me laugh Neil. I can see a new style of post in the future, please help me with this problem but I dont want to discuss it. All responses must be in the form of a Haiku and use words of no more than 4 letters. Each word must start with the letter that ended the previous word..
