kcsun
Big cardboard box arrived today with my nice new mohair hood cover AND a bag of rivets for me to fit to the cover. I would have thought that the cover would come with them fitted as I assume the originals were all fitted in the same place (mind you it was BL!!) Anyway, I do not have a special tool for clamping the two parts of the rivet with the mohair in between. any suggestions for a make shift device that will not scratch/damage the shiny black outer rivet or do I need to buy a special tool? Do wish these Triumph specialists would tell you, you need extra tools etc when you buy parts from them kc
mike3739
Hi Kc Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, yes you do need a special tool as you call it. Cheers Mike.
RogerH
Hi KC, I think you need Moss part GAC5060X to fit the two halves together. Have a look on ebay for a punch to insert a neat hole - looks like a cross between a pair of pliers and spurs. Roger
Jersey Royal
Kc, Heres good info on fitment http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/TR6Top/TR6SoftTop.htm You will also require a rivet gun for the front rail, and rear section. Cheers Guy
kcsun
I have got one of those pairs of pliers (well the other half has, used it on leather belts, I am sure she will not miss it) just need to get one of those Moss machines or similar
Penfold
I think you're referring to a hood stowage cover. In which case you need the following tool as you're only fitting female poppers (the male ones are already in place). It's also not a bad idea to purchase spare poppers. Take a look at: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Poppers-Punch-Fastener-Sewing-Leather/dp/B00HF8JP0G/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1396973541&sr=1-1&keywords=17mm+popper+punch+tool I recently bought a vinyl hood stowage cover and was a little disappointed at the tightness all around the edge held down by the poppers. My advice would be to take it slowly and try to make sure the material is tight between two poppers before moving on to the next. Good luck!
brian -r
I would also check that your new poppers fit the male ones all ready on the car, recently bought a cover for mine with the black ones fitted and they wouldn't fit properly just slightly too small ,had to change them for silver ones. Phil H 4
Hi Mike 3739, A bit historic as your post was back in 2014. I was looking for information regarding hood covers and saw the picture of your twin headlamp conversion. I have recently done a light upgrade but the twin lights are quite appealing as even with a combination of Halogen and leds night driving in country roads can be interesting. Is this something you have created or can it be sourced.
mike3739
Hi Phil H 4 I created the conversion using 5 3/4 headlamp units that have both dipped & main beam with plastic bowls. Cheers Mike
