McMuttley
The RH indicator if fine - flashes and clicks The LH one clicks once, then no more sound. The front flasher is rapid, the rear nothing. Is this no more than a bust rear bulb? If so what rear bulb do i need ? Front earth connection is fine. When reinstalling the front grille, the red green wire seems to have the option of a single bullet brown geen female or a double green red I chose the latter, does it matter which, niether changes the issue
Lebro
Either rear LH bulb is blow, or the wire going to it is broken somewhere. The bulb is a "stop / tail" bayonet fitting 6 / 21 Watt. very common. To test - swap with the other side, & see if the fault swaps over. Double red-green is the right one, brown green is for the horn. Bob. Edited March 16, 2014 by Lebro

McMuttley
Yup, bulb Thanks (again) Bob
foster461
The TR indicator system is a scientific wonder, on a par with the SU fuel pump and the Hammond organ spring reverb.. The indicators rely on all bulbs working, all bulbs of the correct wattage and of course all good connections and grounds. Once the planets have aligned you will have blinking nirvana with the correct sequence and cadence. Stan
McMuttley
Stan, that would presumably explain why, when replacing a duff 6/21 bulb with a 12 /21 ( the only thing Halfords had) the problem leapt to the other side and the issues would only fix if both rear bulbs were 12/21? stillp
Now that sounds like a bad earth on one of the rear light clusters. What happens when the brake lights are on?
foster461
Stan, that would presumably explain why, when replacing a duff 6/21 bulb with a 12 /21 ( the only thing Halfords had) the problem leapt to the other side and the issues would only fix if both rear bulbs were 12/21? If the dual filament bulb has the indicator as the 21 watt then swapping a 6/21 with a 12/21 would not bugger up the indicator circuit as that is looking for 21w bulbs. The system is governed by the resistance of the circuit so deviating from the standard wattage or having bad connectors or grounds or blown bulbs all affect the systems in different ways like nothing working or the flash rate too low or too high. Lebro
Agree with above. Changing wattage, or anything come to that on one side of the car will have no effect on the indicators on the other side. Only one side at a time is connected to the flasher unit. (unless, like me, you modify the system to give hazards warning function.) The flasher unit expects to see a load of 2 X 21W = 42W It will then flash at the correct rate. if one bulb is blown, or you lose connection to one bulb, then the load is reduced, & the flasher unit will usually flash the remaining bulb at a much faster rate. Modern electronic flasher units also do this as an indication of a blown bulb. Good earthing is essential for any of the lights to work properly, but the indicators especialy so. Your 12/21W bulbs (which I have never heard of) will just give you a brighter side or tail lamp depending if it is at the front or the back. Bob.
