bonnietiler
My drive is begining to look like the oil is leaking from below upwards! AND not only that but its FUCHS 20/50 full synthetic... The sump looks fairly well protected against corrosion so it must be leaking from quite high I would imagine andy usual suspects that I should interview first so to speak? All help much appreciated Bonnietiler
Motorsport Mickey
Tin sump join to the block...typically overtightened and warped ? Timing cover oil seal ? Rear crank oil seal if it's an old Rope type rather than the lip seal, Rocker cover gaskets if overtightened and the gasket pushing out ? Mick Richards
AnthonyF
My TR8 has had leaks from both oil filter due to O ring not sealing properly, this of course tends to get blown back over the lower part of the engine making a right old mess, and the rear crank oil seal which is a much more of job to sort but gives you the opportunity to fit new gearbox oil seals & maybe a clutch while you are at it, as well as checking the condition of the clutch arm and pivot. As mentioned check the sump pan bolts but don't overtighten these, mine were a little slack so I just gave them half a turn.
Wilfried
I got a rather serious leak due to the sump seal. Removing the sump is not too easy, because you have to lift the engine two inches and turn the crank in a certain position. It was necessary to adjust the border of the sump: the overtighted screws had pulled the surrounding of the holes. Fitted a new seal. Now ok. Wilfried
