Vegard´s build thread

Recommended Posts

Decided to have a thread for my restoration rebuild.

Since I´ve decided to take my time with the rebuild, I pulled off the front wings today.

This is what I found:

Not too bad on the sills here just some light surface rust here, this being an ex California car seems to have been healthy.

As you can see here the bottom part of the front wings have take the worst hit, with holes rust all the way through.

I will probably buy the repair kits for the bottom part if I can´t save enough of the mounting holes.

I see from the vent flap it's an early car...what year is it, and why is the engine bay black?

Yes it is an early 1970 CC spec, built in December 69.

The PO did a respray of the car at one stage and turned it into Mimosa yellow and made the engine bay black, it was originally Damson Red.

I will respray it but I will do the engine bay and the whole car in the new color. I´m not a huge fan of the Damson red so that´s a no go.

I´ve been thinking about the TR3 Silver Grey color, so if any of you have any photos of a TR6 in that color that would nice to see.

That was a special order build in Blackberry leather, absolutely every panel inside and in the boot was leather covered. Actually worked very well when you saw it close up. Bit over the top for practicality though.

Got all the wings off and happy with the condition behind the wings.

Had a closer inspection of the lower front wings today, the metal is thin and not in great condition.

Does anyone have any experience with the repair panels for the front wings?

Sanded down the sills, and on the right side it looks like someone has been trying to pull out some dents.

And at last I got the fuel tank out and was very pleased with what I saw.

I have had some issues with fuel smell so I guess I should get the tank checked out since its out.

What are the best way of doing this, some kind of pressure test ?

regards,

Vegard

Some more parts out of the engine bay and one floor out.

Since all the sills were in great condition I will leave them and weld in the new floors.

In case you are wondering I´m not finished cleaning up the cut out floor, I only did a quick rough cutout.

Dont leave any panel in bare steel for very long Vegard, at least get some anti rust primer on them.
