carbidave
Hi I am trying to fit new floor pans and have found that the floor won't come down to fit the existing sill edge properly. Have discovered that the rear section of the body has sagged such that the inboard rear wheel arch is sitting on the diff bridge and has been distorted by it. Can anybody advise on what sort of clearance to expect between the diff bridge and the body? Any advice much appreciated. Dave
stuart
About 1/2" clearance between the inner wheel arch and the top of the spring bridge at the rearmost point of the bridge i.e. the highest point of the bridge. Thats on a TR5 in here at the moment but near enough the same on a 4a I would say. Stuart. Edited December 7, 2013 by stuart
AlanT
This is one of the things I go round car shows looking at. You will see lots where the bridge has eroded about half the flange. On mine it had reached the floor and worn a groove across it. The question is why does this happen? Well mine had the back half of the chassis collapsed away. Basically broken in half. carbidave
Hi Stuart and Alan, Thanks for the info - I suspect the rear section of the chassis has collapsed. I have another chassis to transfer the body onto, but hoped to strengthen the body before attempting to lift it off. I can now get on- Thanks again Dave
AlanT
Checked mine after rebuild. More than 1/4in, less than 1/2in. Basically the ftip of my finger goes in but not my hand.
ctc77965o
Check for cracks in the rear inner wing in the radius just forward of the bridge cut out....sure sign the body is doing the job of the chassis.
carbidave
Am just about to repair the cracks you mention now! Thanks all for the valuable information. Dave
