Headlamp alignment

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I need to adjust my headlamps as they are well out. Fit better bulbs and relays.

I found this on the net which seems self explicit

http://www.coolbulbs.com/HID-VISUAL-HEADLIGHT-AIMING-PROCEDURE.pdf

However i have a question, do you align the headlamps down to the line which is 2 inches lower than the horizontal

center line? I ask as i am sure i read somewhere else that you dont, but can find the info , to recheck.

Thanks GUY

Hi Guy

Hope this helps

Hi John,

Most helpful Thanks

From what i can gather, E marked lamps the horizontal beam

should be between o.5% ---1.25% (of the height of lamp) below the horizontal cente.

On mine headlamp centre is 555 mm off the floor

So 0.5 % = 2.77 mm call it 3mm

1.25% = 6.93 mm call it 7mm

So as long as the low beam horizontal line is between 3-7 mm below the horizontal line

they are correct.

How accurately that can be set i dont know, basicaly level with the centreline

Will have another read to check i have this right

Cheers

Guy

edit

There is no mention of distance so is this info for use with headlamp alignment equipment, if so

dont think it answers my question

On full beam they should be straight ahead on the wall with the centre line of the light pattern 7/8" below a line drawn on the wall at the same height as the centre of the headlamps with the car at normal loaded height.

Found this interesting website which gives plenty info on fitting Relays to headlamps, explains loads of stuff.

Also if your not getting 12v at your lights you are not getting the full power of your lights, interesting and worth a check.

I am getting 11.88 v at headlamp socket which means 90 % voltage but only 67 % output :o Article does not state whether

this should be done with engine on or off, my measurement was done with engine off.

Once i fit the relays i will retest .

I could arrange a trailing lead to the 90,000 Volt network, but it would stretch to Malvern!

Yeah that would teach the Mikes and Georges of this world to keep there crustys off

my lovely Stainless Steel Bars.

Will have to make arrangements for Harrogate 2014

Thanks

Peter

Oh but first would need a connectoin of a french supply at Classic Le Mans,

sure you can sort that one.

Excellent Graze

I thought it was very good , a few checks to ensure all is well, good explanation on the relays .

Should be able to get the best out of our new lamps . Which mine were lacking.

Cheers

GUY
