barney1
Hi, I am currently dismantling a TR4a’s engine; in particular the cylinder head valves I have managed to remove all the valves except 1 and 2. I have been using a valve spring compressor to remove them with, but I just can’t get valves 1 and 2 to budge. Just wondering if anyone knows how to over come it? marvmul
If the valve caps don't move, they usually will when you tap the valve compressor with a hammer. I think it's very rare that the valve stems are stuck in the guides.
Andy Moltu
Before you try and use the spring compressor put a suitable sized socket on the valve cap (big enough to clear the collets) and give it a sharp tap with a mallet. This should free the collets from the cap (the collets tend to get impacted in the caps) When you use the spring compressor now it should depress the caps more easily and the collets can be removed. Ade-TR4
is there nothing a hammer can't fix...?
tony13579
If it is rusted in, a bit of heat might help. If it is gunked in with sludge, parafin should soften it
