Percy TR6
Also got my seats from Paul Bishop - MX5 MKii seats supplied with MKi runners. Only adjustment needed was to bend down the front bracket slightly with a pair or pliers. Got the mounting kit from TR Traders who included full instructions. Fitting was a doddle. Both PB & TRT very helpful.
Davidw
Hello All, haven't been on the forum for ages but just for your information regarding alternative seats, it was me some time ago that posted having MGF seats in my TR6. The pictures I attached at that time disappeared for some reason but if anyone is interested I could find them/take some more.(they are not on this computer to attach right now unfotunately) I admit that they are a bit of a sqeeze in their width, I found it best to remove the hardboard tunnel shaper for the handbrake cable carpet and install them left for right to allow the recliner adjustment wheel room to operate. This does not look nearly as bad as it sounds! There may be a better way by replacing the wheel with a lever perhaps. I am still very pleased with them after more than 9 years. They are all leather with period diamond type finish, being fairly square of shape they match the TR6 very well, many people have assumed they were original. I find them very comfortable. I was able to pick them up from a right-off for £100 the pair. Simply had to cut off the rather strange MGF subframe and bolt them to a simple bracket which my previous Corbeaus were attached to. (they were very similar to the MX 5 seats but died a death) Working away for the week but will post pics at the weekend if anyone is interested. Cheers, John Do please post your pictures, if possible, John. I, for one, would be very interested.
brucer
I have purchased some brackets from TRTrader for the MX5 seats. These brackets are for the taller driver. If I had a welder they would be easy to make. Need to get some paint on them before installing. First picture hope it works.

I would be very interested to get more information on how you fitted them in. Could you provide more details, or take some pictures of what you did? Thanks, Nick
cubehopper
I cannot understand why people feel the need to replace the original seats with a modern type. Its a British Triumph for Gods sake, not a Japanese sportscar. If you want mx5 seats buy a mx5. The original seats just need rebuilding with new foams, diaphragms and covers and are then very comfortable. Its also a job you can do yourself , theres lots of information out there to help achieve a really good result.. In my opinion different seats in a Tr just ruin the look of the car, Dave
AlanT
I feel the same but wouldn't normally dare to say so! Check: http://www.britishcarforum.com/bcf/content.php and you will see I have followed through with this!! If you want to see the photos and cant be bothered to login them PM me here. cp25616
at long last a couple of people who actually feel the way I do. I have said this before in previous threads but the "Mixie" seat thing appears to be all the rage. Well it certainly makes me rage anyway! How to make a really good looking sports car look like a small graveyard with two tombstones.......uck!!! Afraid to say I just dont bother to look at TR's with "poofs boudoir" interiors! Thats just me though and the TR specialists certainly favour selling these bolt and fit replacements....... profit margin greater maybe?? Alan

sfirm
Hello Gents, Just a quick question regarding MX5 seats. There seems to be a few varying styles of MkI and MkII seats available (especially on ebay). Which ones are the best fit for the car? Removable headrests or the ones that have built in headrests with speakers etc... As always, any help is much appreciated. Cheers, Stephen.
peejay4A
To the best of my knowledge Stephen, there's no difference to the fitting - evidenced by the adaptor brackets making no distinction between types of seats. I went for the removable headrest type as I wasn't interested in the speakers and I don't like the high back design. The choice is yours.
KOB
I have a collection of TR6 seats, and that includes mark 1 and mark 2 Mazda seats, they both fit on the same modified brackets and both are extremely comfortable, it is soley your visual preference in my view as to which. I also have two pairs of original 6 seats and yes with the as new refurbished ones they are very good, a little soft for my liking but pretty ok. Even the Corbeau recliners are good, and they would be even better if someone want to buy them !! For my next Seating project I shall find away to fit parker knol recliners. Norfolkjohn
Just a small point but not all Mk2 MX5's had the seats with separate adjustable head-rests. I believe these were only on the original Mk2's produced 1999 - 2001. Some if not all the post face-lift MK2's produced from 2001 to 2005 (also known unofficially as the Mk2.5) reverted to a high-back seat albeit different to the ones in the Mk1. My 2002 S-VT sport has the later high back-seats and they are very comfortable. In fact I prefer them to the earlier Mk2 seats we have in the TR6 (which are still very good) but I'd agree the earlier Mk2 seat with the separate head-rest does look nicer in the TR.
