Using a click adjuster to adjust tappets

Recommended Posts

Hi Bill ~

I've got one but I must admit that I much prefer the old method of tappet adjustment as I could never get the settings right due to variations in the settings with the Gunson.

Me too, I have one which is called the Sporq ( I think) which was it's name pre Gunson.

I find it takes more effort to set the tappets with it than use feeler guages, I always check with feelers after using it because I feel it doesn't give consistantly accurate results, and in that case I might as well just use the feelers.

Hi Mick ~

My adjuster is also an SPQR but I thought that no one would know what it was!

I also used to re-check with a feeler gauge. The tappets always needed re-adjustment so that's why I stopped using the adjuster.

Found out how to use on google, not yet convinced however it does potentially solve the problem of slightly worn rockers. One unexpected result was I discovered a weak valve spring by using this tool.

Would not advise anyone to use one. The 'pocket' that usually forms on the underside of the rocker has most probably gone through the outer hardness of the rocker. The Valve then bears on to a 'soft' surface and soon goes out of adjustment!
