ring gear replacement

Recommended Posts

When you shrink on the new ring gear make sure that:

1. it's the right way round with the taper on the teeth facing the front of the car.

2. it's shrunk all the way on. It's possible for the gear to settle in a position that isn't fully butted up to the flywheel. If you've done that you'll find that the starter pinion will not engage properly.

You'll need to remove the flywheel to shrink a new ring gear on and it might be as well to remove the gearbox and engine as one unit. It'll be a lot easier to split the engine/gearbox and remove the flywheel with the whole lot out of the car.
