HOW TO APPLY UNDERSEAL .

Recommended Posts

THE JOB:

I've decided to re UNDERSEAL the wheel arches and any other bits that need re-protecting once I crawl under the car.

THE QUESTION: What is the best product and method ( spray or brush) and is it good practise to treat any rust before applying the black stuff, and with what. Wax oil in the chassis, again views on best way to achieve a good application.

Thanks in advance for any views and ideas on this.

John

I have used dynitrol over the past few years and it works well without degrading,ie drying out and cracking, i also beleve there is a discount for TRR members, check recent mag. Messy job mind , but worth it,

cheers,

Obviously you have spray inside box sections (with an extension probe) but I would suggest brushing onto exposed areas. Assuming youre going for thin, self repairing fluids like Waxoyl, Dinitrol or Bilt Hamber, you will be amazed at how far the stuff gets if you spray it in the open.

You will need a nose mask, goggles, gloves, elasticate cuffs and a decent quality shower hat.

When I last did this job, I had to have about 5 showers and my wife opined that it might have been simpler to just throw me away!

I found this technique to work well:

Ensure its a dry day

Drive car approximately 15 miles, to a specialist (Rees bros in my case)

Say 'underseal that would you'

Return in a week

Open wallet

Admire results.

Thanks David

Yes, I was going to spray into the chassis, and use the black stuff underneath, I was wondering whether with masking spraying the UNDERSEAL would result in a neater looking job, wouldn't really want brush marks if it can be avoided .

So wax oil in the chassis rails but the wheel arches I'm not sure ?.

Because of the thixotropic nature of these fluids if you do this on a warm day the brush marks should fade away quickly. In my experience they do so over time anyway.
