Guest Andrew Hall
So is it a big job, little job, special tools in abundance or best left to someone else, btw the block is completelt stripped of everything else. Regards Andy
marvmul
Is it necessary to change the cam bearings? Clearance when new is 0.06 to 0.12mm, much more than the crankshaft clearances. Light markings don't matter. To remove and replace this bearings, all you need is a threaded rod with 2 nuts, a thick washer that is a little smaller than the cam bores in the block, but wider than the inner diameter of the bearings and a steel lath of about 10 cm with a hole for the rod. Biggest difficulty is positioning the new bearings in order to align the holes in the bearings with the retaining bolts before pulling the bearings in place: when they do not align precisely, you have to start again, with the risk of damaging the new bearings.
