mjc
Hi I'm about to send off my rear light units to a specialist for rechroming. Do I have to uncrimp the metal bulb holders before I send them off? I've looked in the Rimmers and Moss catalogues, but can't find replacement holders should they prove difficult to remove intact. Does anybody know where I could get replacement bulb holders? Thanks Mike
openroad
Hi mike, why dont you contact the chromers and see if they are ok with the bulb holders in,i have seen it done both ways. I reckon they are a bugger to remove, and dont know where to get replacements either. I see you are in s.yorks, who are you using.if you dont mind me asking. Cheers, Conrad. AlanT
My chromer would do these with the holders in. You can get the holders out. I've done this. Its whether you can get them back successfully after thats the problem. Note that the material maybe hiding a lot internal defects which will "blow-out" when you try chroming. Chrome is quite an "aggressive" process unforgiving of material defects. I got repro ones from Moss a few years back and they are virtually indistinguishable from original. I fitted NOS Lucas lenses to them. In my view the best way to restore these, if you want to keep them, would be "chrome paint": http://www.kustomkoating.co.uk/ My pal did the enormous lights on a PA Cresta this way with a good result. You can fill any defects in the normal way. Al. Edited March 20, 2013 by AlanT
BlueTR3A-5EKT
I got some to repair lamps from Leacy Autoparts some years ago. They had a very good stock of Lucas components. You need to know the bulb type you will fit in the holder . Viz 380/382/989/etc Link http://www.leacyclassics.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?limit=36&q=Bulb+holder Probably DFB101for brake tail and/bha4283nf for Indic. Plus the internal contacts if not included. Cheers Peter W Edited March 20, 2013 by BlueTR3A-5EKT
mjc
I ordered 4 DFB101 from Peter W's post and they arrived today and are correct bulb holders for both top and bottom bulbs. Many thanks for your advice. Mike
BlueTR3A-5EKT
I ordered 4 DFB101 from Peter W's post and they arrived today and are correct bulb holders for both top and bottom bulbs. Many thanks for your advice. Mike I am surprised at that as the indicator is equal position side pins and the brake and tail is offset Try the two different bulbs in before you fit them.
