fuel tank removal tr6

Recommended Posts

Decided to fit a new prv from prestige injection,as was getting resonance from the pump in the summer hot days, but found that the prv mounting had broken on one side, cant get the body of the prv undone from the T piece. So need to replace the mountings at the same time but only way to access as far as i can see is to remove the fuel tank. Can anyone tell me the way to remove the tank and what sort of job it is. Haynes manual goes on about removing the centre capping of the rear elbow rail retaining screws and slide the capping to one side until its other end is clear of the side capping, withdraw the centre section. I am not sure what this means!!!

Does any one no the procedure for removing the tank.

thanks

john

Pulled mine out recently. Brown book has procedure. Something like

Remove boot trim

Pull fuel cap off

Undo clips on filler hose

Remove filler hose and grommet

Undo the lines going in at top

Undo gauge sensor wires (rhs top)

Get a bucket, undo line at filter and drain (make sure batt disconnected)

Undo 6 or8 bolts holding it in an remove. You might need a socket extender around 6-8 inches.

From the brown bible

Isolate the battery

Remove luggage compartment forward trim panel

Drain the fuel tank

Disconnect the pipe - tank to the filter inlet

Disconnect the pipe - PRV return to the fuel tank

Disconnect the metering distributor lubrication fuel return to the tank, pipe

Remove the fuel filler to tank hose

Disconnect the tank gauge unit leads

Remove the six bolts complete with plan and spring washers securing the fuel tank to the body

Remove the tank

Reverse instructions

Reconnect battery

Start engine and check for leaks

Refit the luggage compartment rim panel

Yep just done this can be removed with tank in place. Remove rear deck panel makes this easy.

Hi

You can find pdf copies on the internet, try googling Triumph TR6 Workshop Manual.

Personally I find the hard copy easier to use and you can get these from Rimmers, or try Ebay or Amazon, it's well worth the money!

Dave

+1, and my paper  Brown Bible is covered in hand written notes and sketches of things I discovered as I worked through each operation- which 10 or 20 years later are priceless.

You should be able to remove Prv without taking the tank out.

Have you tried access to Prv from the cockpit side of the tank.

Not easy but i have done it in the past

Cheers

+1 remove the back the back board in the cabin. Start by removing the back mountings of the hood to make the job easier. Lift up back section of hood and secure. Remember that the body of the PRV needs a  whitworth spanner or adjustable and pipe fittings as they are BSP.

Bruce.
