peejay4A
Idly browsing my repro glovebox manual for the 4A I noticed that it describes the operation of the overdrive switch as up to engage and down to disengage. On my TR6 it was the other way around. So which is correct?
Glenn_Howard
On my TR4 it's down to engage... Glenn
PaulR
Definatley down to engage
RogerH
Hi Pete, if you have the stalk on the righthand side then it is down. The O/D switch could be put on the other side of the steering column in which case it would be up. Roger
ianc
In Britain, the convention is (and has been for all my lifetime!) that putting a switch down puts on the light, turns on the power and operates the overdrive. I believe that the Americans do the opposite - but we lost the War of Independence a long time ago, so let them be different! Ian Cornish
peejay4A
Curious isn't it. The handbook appears to be written for the US market then. Mine will be down to engage when installed. I've also swapped the indicators so that they operate on the left of the column to minimise confusion between the TR and the modern. Now if only I could find my brake flaring tool I'd be able to finish the plumbing.
RogerH
Hi Pete, we are definately on the same wave length. I went to use my brake pipe flaring tool the other week - Gone. If I've lent it to somebody I can't remeber who or when. If I haven't lent it then it is in there somewhere OMG Roger
peejay4A
I've look everyblankingwhere and can I find the blanking thing? It must have got together with yours to make baby flaring tools.
RogerH
what you could say - a bit of a flare up. Roger
AlanT
Gentlemen dont blame the tool. I find now the hardest part of car restoration is remembering where I put things. Its yer age thats the problem. Al.

wayne taylor
I have the o/d switch on the lhs of the steering column! And in this position the o/d is DOWN!
RogerH
Hi Wayne, the plastic (or metal) shroud that the O/D switch fits into has a 'D' shape cut-out for the switch to locate into. Yours' may have been rounded off. Make sure the nut is kept tight. Roger
stuart
I have the o/d switch on the lhs of the steering column! And in this position the o/d is DOWN! The overdrive stalk has obviously been fitted on the opposite side to normal and as the switch only makes in one direction thats why yours operates downwards, Easily swapped over as long as there is enough slack in the cable if not you will need to slacken off the cable tray under the column. Which side are your indicators? Stuart.
