MikeHughes
The most successful of the 2 Group 44 TR8s has come up for sale again 4 years after Bob Tullius sold it. This fabulous looking car was raced by Group 44 in 1979 -1981 and was virtually unbeatable in its class in the Trans Am and then the IMSA series beating the Corvettes, Camaros and Porsche RSR's in the process. Its 2 finest results were 7th o/a 1st in class 1979 Watkins Glen 6 hrs and 6th o/a 1st in class 1980 Sebring 12 hrs. I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours talking to Bob in 2009 at the aircraft hangar where he keeps all his vintage aeroplanes in Sebring and he told me that of all the cars he raced in his long career his favourite was the TR8. www.grandprixclassics.com

Alec Pringle
Of course it's running Lucas mechanical PI, what else would you have used in 1979 on an engine like that ? The most successful and desirable competition TR of all time, simple as that. Cheers, Alec
MadMarx
The TR8 was also equipped with a Pierburg EFI unit as stated in the homolgation papers. Edited July 30, 2012 by MadMarx
Alec Pringle
Unfortunately the Pierburg system, to put it politely, didn't work very well . . . . tried briefly on the rally cars, I think that was as far as it got. For a full race Rover V8, at the time there was still nothing to touch the PI. Cheers, Alec
