Dizzy curve for Lady Anne

Recommended Posts

Hi gang,

Some hot news from northern France. Chris Rigaut finally managed to measure the diagram specs for Lady Anne's unknown camshaft with a new homemade contraption.

Numbers say 42-68-78-32. A sprint88 or Revington rallye it is, like I originally thought. The 45D4 dizzy curve was out of Africa, by far. Accordingly, Martin Jay recon'd the dizzy for rallye cam specs: 10° @ 1750rpm, 20° @ 3500 on the engine and 31-32° full avance. Strobe setting at 11-12° @ 800 rpm.

Chassis reinforced and tub realigned, comp rear leafsprings, front axle now 1.5 neg camber ...

HS6 SUs were rebored to 2" on both ends, stacks-equipped ...

Barbour oiled, new scarf and cutaway gloves. Teeth brushed. I'm set.

When this baby fires away next week, you all gonna see some serious s***t ...

Badfrog, where's that breathalyzer ...

Waddya mean Badfrog, Barbour oiled ? :o

You could wring that rag with sleeves out and fill half the sump, it needs oiling like Madonna needs Viagra . . . . . :D

As for Lady Anne, does this mean that roundabout exits might be tackled without more tail wagging than even Tyson Staffie can manage ? ;)

TR2100 piloted by Badfrog eh, remarks about Beauty and the Beast come to mind . . . . B)

Cheers,

Alec

I'll let you have a drive of TR 2100 next summer.

I think you can handle the extra power from the Webers!!!

You're on. Champagne to follow...

Almost there.

First fire on Monday, with 103° cam setting. 108° and 110° tests to follow.

This is gonna be real hot. And when this baby hits 6000 rpm, you gonna see some serious sh**.

Badfrog, all revved up, smoke under the armpits ....

Just realised that I'm not working on another TR4, but on a legend

Jef, sorry to bring you back to ground level, but the body can't be so easily aligned, as the rear wings aren't symetrical......

BTW, who need wings to fly, certainly not your RocketTR (pronounce "Rocketeer" !)

Ok then,

Everything is gunk and roses. Lady Anne will be home by mid-february.

Camshaft excellent when set at 103° (inlet, ATDC). Martin Jay did a nice work on the dizzy.

Only one problem: the engine won't go over 5200 rpm (sort of chokes, or stutters ...). Haven't seen the car yet but Chris says it might be insufficient feeding by the carbs.

This I can solve with all the different springs and needles and pistons (biased or not) I have. Might even tinker with the HS8 again.

Any other idea?

Fuel pump?

Stuart,

I have the small cubic Facet pump (new) plus an online pressure dial and a regulator set at 2.5 psi. Is that too low?

The sprint88 is specified with a static setting at 106° while the Revington rallye (identical profile) is specified with 103°. Would that make a difference?

Check fuel pressure with a known correct gauge, where is the regulator mounted? 2.5 to 3 psi is about correct. What air cleaners are you using, Velocity stacks may help. What coil are you using?

Cam timing isnt really my field.

The regulator is in engine bay, level with carbs. Chris will remove it and try again, in case it is restraining the flow.

I use stacks and socks and a good coil (Lucas sports) but may be it is not so good?

About the coil, a Flame Thrower is used (on the wheel arch), not the Lucas, who's bolted as a spare coil on the engine.

I may be wrong, but I feel that 106° may cause some loss in the low rpm torque.

Chris.

Badfrog,

I've got the same profile cam as you set to 103 degree and also a Martin Jay rebuilt dizzy to match the engine and it will rev freely to the max if allowed to but I am supplying a good bit more pressure than you (twin 45's) may be the problem?
