JJC
Last few things in the rebuild. Anyone know the trick with aligning the bonnet catch? It latches down then springs open as soon as the car moves or else it jams latched. How do you set it up so it works as intended?

You have something out of alignment remove the pin and loosen the cones at the bulkhead and make sure it rest there bang on,then fit the pin fully open and rest a piece of card/paper on the catch grease the pin and lower it will mark to show you centre. Adjust the pin so that it will close with ONLY a slight prees in the middle of the bonnet
JJC
Thanks. We did try that sort of thing but using paint on the catch to sort out where it was contacting. On hold at the moment because three new bonnet release cables have failed. Thank heavens it's a TR4 and not the 6!
ianc
Make sure you have a secondary, emergency, bonnet release mechanism in place, whether it be a lever (as advertised in TR Action) or nylon cord. Ian Cornish
JJC
Ian - yes, I've just had three new cables fail on me. Fortunately on a 4 it's not a catrastophe. Headlights out, undo the bolts, and you can free the bonnet. However, the 6 would be a different story!
salec
I had this happen ... bonnet bounced open when going over a slight bump. Found that the spring was worn, though this was noticeable at first, replaced the spring and the problem went away.
