If you go too high pressure you may find you get a hot left leg when the pipes to your heater/ heater matrix give way!!!! I use 7lbs with the later TR4 rad with no probs. ianc Posted October 27, 2011 Report Share Posted October 27, 2011 13 lbs rating is too high - it imposes unnecessary strain on the hoses and every other part of the cooling system. And when a hose blows, the water will exit at a very great rate and could be at a temperature of over 100 degrees C inside the cooling system, which guarantees nasty burns if it hits any part of you. There was a description in TR Action not long ago of burns to someone's legs occasioned when one of the hoses to the heater blew; and I had the same thing happen in the 1960s in my TR2 but escaped injury because the coolant was at normal operating temperature and I was wearing thick jeans - but I did exit the car very rapidly! Complete failure because they order in based on registration number! Needless to sayXKY830 didn't come up on their system. Running the car while tuning it up using the TR2 cap seemed fine so I'll get a 4lb one from Moss. The one that failed was brand new too. Can confirm the heater hose leak drama. I picked up 3 stainless steel ones (one for TR, two for the Rover.... rad cap and expansion tank) for £15 which I thought was a bargain (bulk buy haggling!) Bri. This assumes you are not gong to use a specialist who will know what your car should use. Re read the Moss catalogue specifications as per what car you have and or radiator filler neck!!!
