Steering box bearings

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A fwe weeks ago I had some steering box problems. Anyway I stripped the box the other day and found that the problem was, as suggested by a member, the top bearing race was twisted.

Anyone know where I can obtain a new one? My local supplier can't get hold of one after calling all his usual suppliers and I called Revington to be told that the bearing is NLS.

I've ordered one from Moss but my supplier told me that he tried Moss and the didn't have any. I'm hoping he is wrong and my online order will turn up in a few days!!

Any ideas?

Typical, a long weekend and a four quid part is keeping the car off the road.

Cheers

Hi Flash,

Try a local bearing specialist - take the old unit, they can very possibly identify and cross-reference to something that will do the job. Back when I was motor factoring, we regularly came up with the NLS bearing problem for whatever old cars, marque specialists out of stock etc etc. The bearing people in Yeovil came up with something every time.

If you can read the reference number on the bearing, try google . . .

Cheers,

Alec

If the 'cages' are OK they are 1/4" bearings, put steering into the search engine and a lot comes up on steering boxes. You should be able to pick some 'balls' as Steve suggested with no problems.

Its the supply of cages that is the problem, the repro ones arent the correct shape, so if you come across a good cage then hang on to it as the balls are easily obtainable ;)
