Le Mans Classic - May Newsletter

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, the following newsletter was emailed out this morning to everyone who has placed an order, there were a few bounced addresses so I would appreciate a note back if you didn't receive it.

Two months to go to the Le Mans Classic 2008 - it's officially time to start getting exited and counting down the days!

This years theme as you can see from the graphic above is 'Triumph at Le Mans', 'Triumph Au Mans' in the local language - we are in France after all!

In February we had to stop taking bookings as our entire allocation was sold out, so that's a great big thank you for everyone who committed to booking early and an apology for anyone who missed out.

The numbers this year are quite staggering, 650 people, 330 cars, 300 camping spots and 220 orders.

In March we placed our final ticket order with the organisers in France and transferred all the outstanding monies over to them, believe me - it was a LOT of money!

We expect to send the tickets out 2-3 weeks before the event and will send out an email advising the exact date closer to the time.

For those of you who will be at Le Mans Friday morning, we have persuaded the organisers to lend us the pit straight for a photo session, we'll have the opportunity to put all the Triumphs on the classic chevron start-grid and get a fantastic birds-eye picture from the top of the grandstands or helicopter, budget permitting.

Back by popular demand is our broadcast information system, we'll be sending SMS messages direct to your mobile during the weekend. Details of this and how to sign up will be in the next email newsletter.

Also back by demand is the large marquee and bar stocked with ice cold drinks.

I've had a sneak preview of this years design for T-shirts, Polo shirts and mugs - they are really superb and we'll email snaps of them as soon as the TSSC & TR-Register club shops launch them.

Things to do now:

By now you will have booked your ferry and checked your passport is up to date.

Service your car and do some 'shakedown' mileage to check reliability (see you at Prescott ?)

Things to note

From 1st June in France it will be mandatory to carry reflective jackets for all travellers (which have to be accessible from inside the car, not the boot) and a triangle.

Other items that you have to carry when touring in France are:

- driving licence

- original vehicle registration document

- insurance documents

- GB sticker or GB Europlate

- headlight beam deflectors

- spare bulbs

- dipped headlights in poor daytime visibility

Items recommended to carry:- first aid kit

- fire extinguisher

Be aware- France operates a severe on the spot fine system for traffic violations.

- Radar detectors are illegal and penalties are severe if caught - even if they aren't plugged in.

- You cannot carry more than one spare 5 litre fuel can. (Also check limitations on your ferry/Eurotunnel journey)

- Monday 14th is Bastille Day, non-autoroute garages may be closed.

Hi All,

Loking forward to seeing everyone at Le Mans. We are number 11 ( plateeau three) and are in the same "team" as Mark Hoble ( TR2 plateau two) and the Triumph Spitfire of Pugh and Thompson in plateau four.

Concerning the above:

Be aware, that as from 1 July 2008, the absence of either will cost you €90,- per item if stopped.

Enjoy Le Mans!
