chris turner
The registration suggests that it was originally sold in Sheffield.
NickKerfoot
Thanks Chris, It is a Sheffield registration. I'm waiting for a Heritage trace and some info from DVLA to see if these shed any light as my V5 says the car was first registered in 1968!!! Nick
Trevor S
It still appears on a DVLA licencing search with a road tax renewal due at the end of May next year, so it's still out there and in use by the look of it. The 1968 registration date is odd though. Maybe it was reimported although obviously not given a 1968 registration number. Trevor.
chris turner
As I live in Sheffield I seem to remember the EWJ series of numbers being issued in 1962, there may have been some left for 1963. By 1968 we were int the E+F suffix.
NickKerfoot
Hi Chris Your memories of Sheffield registrations ties up well with a comission no of CT 8***. which would indicate it was built about the 2nd quarter of 1962. It's possible the car was written off and re-registered with its original plates in 1968 as I did find evidence of major body and chassis damage during restoration. Or DVLA's dates are just wrong! Waiting to see on that score... Nick
NickKerfoot
Chris TR has come back from Heritage as a UK home market car built 8 May 1962. It was despatched to Ernest Whatfield Ltd, in Sheffield. Does this ring any bells with you??? Cheers Nick.
chris turner
Nick, Ernest. W. Hatfield became Hatfields, they are still in business as Jaguar main dealers, they supplied most of the Triumphs in Sheffield. I remember a neighbour buying a new TR4a IRS from them in late 1966.
