Thought I would give it a go through the Forum. I swopped my faithful TR6 in 1980 having repainted it white after finding the original Damson too hot when touring Italy in the 1970's. Have never seen this car since 1980 in Solihull. It was in good order when last seen with SAH engine and white US spec hood.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the car since the early eighties?

Regards,

Fin Purcell.

Hi Fin, I owned this car for about seven years from 1980. I bought it for £1,575 from a guy in Shirley area. I had many happy times driving it, and I feel very nostalgic and regretful that I can’t turn back time.
I put some XJS whitewall tyres on it, and you imagine how good it looked! It’s a long time ago but I seem to remember that it needed some TLC. I had to have the chassis repeatedly welded to get it through MOTs, and the gearbox had to be rebuilt. Overall though it served me well.
I blame my son for the fact that I sold it. I got married in 1986 and he was born in 1987. It didn’t seem practical to keep it, so I sold it for (I think) £2,200 in 1987 to a guy from Leamington. I can’t remember his name, but it was someone I knew, who was keen to buy it. It’s great to see your post and be able to tell you what happened to your car.
