  1. Probably the wrong place for this topic/post. However, I have this one cluttering up the workshop and am open to any sensible offers via eBay. I’d love it to go to a new home. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lucas-ammeter-Range-Rover-classic-Triumph-Morris-Austin-50-0-50/254270361591?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 if it’s of interest, please make an offer, whatever you feel it’s worth to you. David
  2. I have a load of original Girling 16P brake calipers that are about to be refurbished by Bigg Red. I have had one pair finished in black to go behind the black wire wheels on my BRG racecar. my plan is to have these plated (not painted) in either the original type gold or silver. There will be new pistons and seals etc. Basically, they will be fully reconditioned and ready to fit. The point of this post is to ask that if anyone is looking for a pair and wants then done in a particular finish, let me know as I will be taking to be done next week. Price depends on finish. Final point is that these are original castings and not the repro ones!! David
  3. What are people's thoughts on the oil change intervals for a gearbox with J type overdrive. It was 6 years ago when I last did a change but only 6000 miles since. Should I change due to the time or not bother yet because of the low mileage. Another conundrum for cars that cover low mileages!

  5. Could somebody please confirm that I am not going mad! A couple of weeks ago I took the lever arms off my 5 and marked the n/s unit with a label for future ID and sent them of to a reputable firm for reconditioning and upgrade(15%). I got them back today and tried to fit them. N/S no problem - arm moves from upright, down, clockwise towards the bumpstop. However the O/S moves from upright away from the bumpstop in a clockwise direction - nowhere near the bumpstop! I hope the attached images show this. They are all viewed from the front of the car, O/S first 2 images. Many thanks, Tim
  6. Was this someone from here? Today (24/2) I was leaving Denia in Spain heading for Alicante airport at about 5:15 pm and saw a nice red TR5PI driving the same route, seemed to be in convoy with an Alfa Spider? if that was you then congrats on a nice car, and maybe we could meet up sometime as i keep Amita in Denia, she’s a yacht not a secret lover.... steve
  7. Just seen this 5 up for 70k in Australia. Am I right in thinking if it ever came to the UK it would now need a Q plate due to the extensive rebuild and plus a yearly MOT? The windscreen might be the only original item left on the car. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1038427

    FND 205F

FND 205F Looks like a TR250 but advertised as a TR5! Used to ATR 5F I think.... Chassis Number CD 1762L and a CC Engine number with PI added.... Smells like a rat......very naughty behaviour IMHO https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1009168
  9. Folks. I have been constantly hearing regards fake cars. Time to do something simple ie post the suspect cars and let some so called experts help unsuspecting buyers. It will be very easy to create a database on FaceBook. yes I know a lot of people dont like FB but do you like the idea of of people buying cars that are 'Ringer's?' Doesnt that damage our reputations too. Those new owners might just join the register one day. So there we are to start the ball rolling I have started a FB group for this. If you have good knowledge please pop over and either give your expertise, post photos of cars or if you need a hand deciding anyway. Please help other to look after the Marque in this sense too. Tony The 'TR Ringers' FB group. To combat the despicable habit of selling cars for what they are not Such as Tr250's as Tr5's and Tr7 with a v8 as Tr8's I have started another group. You are free to join if you can give advise or want to check a car? The official wording is Welcome to this group. It has been formed to address the ever increasing number of Tr's that are being converted and then sold as something they didn't come out of the factory as for instance a Tr250 being sold as a Tr5 or a Tr7 which has had a 3500 v8 conversion. Whether you want to help stop the phenomenon or need help assessing a car. Please join the cause. https://www.facebook.com/groups/234504900530639/?ref=br_rs
  10. Just wondered if any of the knowledgeable folk on here know of anyone/reliable company who might be able to nip across the Channel to Holland and collect a TR5 for me? It is a non-runner but would roll onto a trailer/flatbed OK. I am based in the North of Scotland so it is major expedition trying to tie in ferry/tunnel timings with a 1500 mile round trip. If it was on this side of the channel it is a bit easier to come and collect it. Happy to pay the going rate. Thanks Ali Picture for attention, as they say!!
  11. Not everyones cup of tea I know, but defo the best way to share generic info and photos. As a life long Michelotti fan and friend of the family I felt it was time to start a FaceBook page dedicated to Michelotti and the 1200 designs of his which became cars as although we love our Triumphs he designed Jaguars and all sorts. Did you know he has 192 Ferrari designs that became cars? Anyway for anyone interested in seeing and sharing there is now a FB group called The Michelotti Cars where fans and car owners can join in. https://www.facebook.com/groups/271937770263969/ All the best and look forward to seeing some of you. Tony

I have just finished removing the underseal from the underside of the floor pans on my 1968 TR5 project and was surprised to see brown paint as in the images. Does this suggest that the panels have been replaced at some time in the past? Many thanks, Tim
  14. Hello guys, do you know if there is a supplier who sell decent plenum corner repair panels, ie left and right extremities of the plenum panel ? I've got a TR5 and a very early (CP 2500*) TR6 who are rusted here, so ready (or nearly ready) to use repair panels could be usefull !
  15. Hi, I’m seriously thinking of converting my TR5 from Weber 40DCOEs to EFI. I know that some of you out there have changed to EFI and have been pleased with the results so I’m hoping to benefit from your experience. I know little about EFI, is there any ‘must-read’ information out there that would get me started. The only thing that I have thought is that I would like to use a spare set of CP throttle bodies that I have as I like their compactness (100mm shorter than the Weber/manifold). I hope these would allow an effective cold-air box system. This is something that has been a problem with the Webers with the restricted space available. No real thoughts about the rest of the system. Hoping for suggestions. As always, look forward to any input. Peter
  16. Hi everyone I understand TR5 radiator cowls were never fitted from new - was there a reason for this as the under bonnet view without one looks very unfinished, in my opinion? Also, I am not aware that these are currently available as an aftermarket addition. A number of local members with TR5s have remarked on the alloy cowl on my TR4, and intimated they would like one - it doesn't look that difficult to modify a TR4 one to fit, but I wonder if there is a pent up demand amongst TR5 ( and TR250 ) members for these and whether it would be worth making them officially, rather than modifying an existing piece of kit . Another one of my hair brained ideas - I wait with baited breath to be shot down but that's exactly why I've posted this, so don't hold back! Cheers Rich
  17. Had problems with the Overdrive that turned out to be the switch. So I replaced it, but this one is nearly as bad in as much as the overdrive will keep dropping out and reengaging. Are they all from the same source or are some better than others? Definitely the switch because if I put pressure on it I can get The overdrive to cycle! Or has anyone managed a good modification?
  18. I have just finished stripping all the underseal from the body and most of the chassis from my 5 and came across a small metal plate in the rear nearside wheelarch with a 5 figure number on it, there is not one on the offside, and also a letter/number stamped on the front chassis cross member. Does anybody know what these are, please? Many thanks, Tim
  19. Ok, another slightly weird query, I do like them ! Has anyone had any problems with the UJ between the prop shaft & the differential, after fitting CV joints between the differential & the wheels ?
  20. Another TR5 on ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-TR5-PI-UK-Car-Body-off-new-chassis-rebuild-Digital-Injection-History/282905545749?hash=item41de7c0c15:g:NS8AAOSwm-ZavjAF
  21. I am not on the forum a great deal these days - so have I missed something? I find there is but a single page for the TR5 forum, where have the previous pages gone? How does one access them? What has happened to all the years of shared wisdom and information on all aspects of TR5' as well as many great photos? I must have missed something or am I getting paranoid in my old age. Looking elsewhere, I feel the whole forum has lost something, life I think!
  22. Its not mine but.....when you fancy something a little less technical. There is a now a Tr5 Face Book page if you have pictures and stuff to share? 'Triumph TR5 owners'
  23. So Finally getting round to doing a few jobs. One of the things I have read for years is regarding how you should get a properly designed kit and anything else is dangerous and blah bla. So My 5 has had a bosch pump for 30 years. It doesnt have anything fancy just a 580254973 pump which was superseeded by the 910. It doesnt have a bosch filter just low down in the boot and with the CAV filter and it has done many many miles of hard driving here in the alps without ever missing a beat. So sorry folks when I read stuff about you will damage your car and stuff I am not very convinced as I am living proof. The original system was deigned to feed 6.89bar @72,74 Lph. The Bosch I have feeds 5bar @130 Lph. Just about every Bosch pump feeds 5b (some 3b) Some of the differences are in the consumption and I have no idea why a 910 pulls 1amp more than a 909. Now I am not sure how all this converts as it would appear that the Bosch pressure is too low but what can I say, they work. Maybe someone wiser than me can explain? Anyway back to the point. due to a layup without fuel my pump seal has gone and its leaking so its time to change. I have a 580254933 someone gave me and I am going to try it out as I cant find any info regards the specs, worst case either she wont run at all or will not ave power at top end, unlikely its dangerous as I said before in theory its rare to have pumps that are more powerful than the Lucas. Would be great if someone knows where to find the specs of the 933 (Saab 900 I believe) to see but if not I will try it. For those interested all the info point to vistually all the pumps we are interested in being standardised to the 909 and 910 which have similar specs so all this talk about you need our kit as its the only safe one has me wondering if its not marketing? For those of you interested I have also found a Marelli pump with similar specs at about 1/5th of the Bosh price. Interested to hear from anyone who has actually tried the combinations or knows the effects of changes in Lpm (what most of the Bosch do when specs change) I have been collecting quite a bit of info so for those of you interested here are some links. http://www.tr6pi.com/Lucas%20Petrol%20Injection.pdf Page 8 shows lucas fuel specs http://www.leicestertr.co.uk/Part%20Numbers_files/pumps.pdf Range of pump numbers as published by Peter Winn many years ago. https://www.auto-doc.it/magneti-marelli/7613355 Marrelli pump 6b @120lpm very cheap......It does look identical to my 973 and at that price I am tempted to get one to try. https://www.boschfuelpumps.com/B.htm list of bosh specs Last but not least the 2 lists of Bosch cross reference numbers. Second one is easy to read https://www.boschfuelpumps.com/Bosch%C2%A0Fuel%C2%A0Pumps%C2%A0Cross%C2%A0Reference%C2%A0Part%C2%A0Number%C2%A0Guide%C2%A0.htm http://www.guzzitek.org/documents/injection/Bosch_EFI_References_CrossReferences.pdf If anyone has info on the 933 pump I am interested the last link shows the Saab 900 as a 909 so I am hopeful...So meanwhile I am going of to play Tony P.s. I have been doing a lot of research on oils and do you know that some very well done test charts showing oil resistance I have found actually point to all the chat about zinc and stuff as not being too relevant and not as worrying as some people might think. Gonna post it now separately.
  24. Hi. Ive never had the hood up on my car but decided last night to give It a go. What a PITA! Its nearly an inch short of the pins dropping into the header rail. I did manage it in the end by pulling and tugging on the the hinge arms. Result it is drum tight! It looks like a new canvas/mohair type and probably was a good fit prior to the chassis being changed by a P.O. Ill leave it up for a couple of weeks to see if it gives at all, but is there any thing else worth considering doing? Dave
  25. I have experienced a problem new to me and I am wondering if any one else has had this problem? The triangular box under the dash. labeled an Anti Torque strap in the moss catalogue, page 211 part 104, has fractured. This the small section on the bulkhead that supports the steering column and to which the column stays are bolted to. I am told it is metal fatigue? I am a "chunky" person but i do not use the steering wheel to lever myself in or out of the car. hence I am wondering how and why this small but vital piece breaks? It is not shown in the original ST parts manual considered I guess as part of the bulkhead, but Moss do show it as a separate part implying that failure is common. In nearly 46 years of TR ownership I have never heard of or seen this before. I would be interested in your views/experiences Duncan
