  1. A thread elsewhere on Forum reminded me of how often folks use the wrong size spanner . . . . . and regret it. Herewith a link which I have mentioned in years gone by, updated and expanded since last I mentioned it . . . . . . A most useful table of relative sizes of jaws, vast quantities of useful advice re spanner handling, and more follow-up links for even more specialist data than you could ever need. http://www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/psc/spanner_jaw.html Cheers Alec
  2. Hi just curious if anyone has swapped a tr7 5 speed into a tr3? If so any insights would be appreciated regarding the clutch, pressure plate, pinion etc. I a not sure if anyone sells the adaptor for the bellhousing end or for the gearbox end to weld onto the existing tr3 bellhousing. Thanks in adavance.
  3. Hi together, since a few years we have beside 2 GT6 (one convertible with TR6PI) also a TR7 Coupe. 1. Since the beginning we have the problem, that both headlight motors are only moving if you pull the flash light button. Once the lamps are up and you switch on the lights with the main switch both remained upright. Switching off the main headlight switch let the lamps go down. Any idea where I can search for the failure?? 2. Since a few days the left headlight goes up as the right one, but after a few miles and voibrations the headlight goes down. Switching off and switching on lea
  4. I have recently finished restoring CDO260V a Speke built car under the guise of. "Save a seven" it is my first experience of restoring a 7 and not my easiest project I must say. The body was a colinder and the engine in bad shape especially when I tried to remove the head, impossible when the studs shear off! The colour is brooklands green or as a friend so kindly put it, " it looks like it's been painted in southern railways green" That said I must say the driving experience is absolutely fantastic, it was a shame that I couldn't get it over to the IWE but I could get more spares in my
  5. Picked up a 1976 Triumph TR7 in central Iowa on Monday. Being new to the Triumph TR7, I tried to back her off of the trailer and put her in reverse and started to let off the clutch. She then made a loud pop and decided to try again maybe holding the gear shifter in thinking she popped out of the gear. Same instance happened, she popped real loud. I decided to put the car in neutral and push her off. 1st gear works as do the others no problem. What could cause that sound of an issue? also a rough idle. She’ll go between 500-1500 Rpms and almost die then jump back up to 1000
  6. Hi All I am currently putting together an article for the TRaction magazine on the ACN TR8's (not preaching to the converted but these were the approx. 150 TR8 pre-production cars that were, in the main, sent to North America for evaluation). If anyone has one of these cars (please just the ones with the VIN starting ACN ...) then please drop me a line (drcsmith2@hotmail.com) .. it's not important if it is a box on parts in a garage or a concours one. I do own a number of these TR8's, here is one of my favourites, a TR8 which never left the UK and was factory fitted with fuel injec
  7. Folks. I have been constantly hearing regards fake cars. Time to do something simple ie post the suspect cars and let some so called experts help unsuspecting buyers. It will be very easy to create a database on FaceBook. yes I know a lot of people dont like FB but do you like the idea of of people buying cars that are 'Ringer's?' Doesnt that damage our reputations too. Those new owners might just join the register one day. So there we are to start the ball rolling I have started a FB group for this. If you have good knowledge please pop over and either give your expertise, post photos o
  8. I have a rebuilt engine for a TR7 complete with new head and on Su carbs. It has been sat in my barn for the last 3 years no doing a great deal. I am coming over to the uk in August and within reason can deliver between Brighton and Darlington up the A1 corridor. If anyone is interested please pm me to discuss further? Cheers Clem
  9. LMT 462P (1976 Motor magazine Press Car) After the lovely weekend it was back to 'work' ... Steve at S+S Preparations has finished the mechanical side and it is now off to be repainted ... with a little luck it'll be ready for showing for the 2019 season ... safe travels LMT
  10. Morning All, OK time to debunk all the rubbish printed about the new MOT and tax laws .... here are the possible combinations that apply to UK TR7's and TR8's : 1) Car currently on 'historic' (not PLG) taxation class .... just go online and you can register for exemption and a free tax 2) Car not currently on 'historic' (on PLG) taxation class - you can go online and get MOT exemption BUT you need to pay for you tax until you get historic ... OR go to your Post Office and get exempted and free tax Historic taxation class is currently for cars built before Jan 7th 1978 ... those built
  11. After a number of years of superb service, our valued wedge registrar has decided to step down from the role. Ian White has worked tirelessly on building the database of records for the TR7/8 models over the past few years and his time as TR7 Registrar saw the model celebrate its 40th anniversary. He has also contributed hugely valuable reports to TR Action Magazine covering all aspects of TR7 history. So, now the club needs someone to take over from Ian, take on the records and help the club continue to build on it’s offering to wedge enthusiasts. All you need is some time and a huge amou
  12. Is there a set distance at which the cylinder head needs re-torquing after a major re-build? I've done 222 miles since a major re-build in 2016.I know I should get out more but some stuff got in the way (including a house) but I plan to put a few more miles on starting soon. Thanks in advance Keith
  13. Hi It is time to replace the hood on our Blue Grinnall. Can anyone recommend a hood supplier and a hood fitter in the Thames Valley area. Phil Silk was recommended years ago but I think he has stopped trading.
  14. Just a couple of contacts which might prove useful for others. Although these are a couple of years old now I think the companies are still going. I had two LT77 gearboxes rebuilt at Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead. The proprietor is clearly an enthusiast and cares about his customers and their needs. He has a mechanic who specialises in the LT77 and seems quite knowledgeable himself. One box was well chewed but the other needed only a light fettling. Both together cost me about £800 if I remember correctly. The internal oil pump mechanisms get replaced with brass components as a matt
  15. Had a great run in the TR7 V8 this weekend but then washed the car to get rid of the muck, step back to admire the gleam, and one headlamp pod is raised..then gradually jerks down in steps until closed, when the other side jerks up in 4 or 5 steps to fully raised, then jerked down and reverts to other one, and so on. Slight electrical burning smell in cockpit, so undo fuse cover and which fuse? Couldn't find anything in manuals other than which one is dipped beam - removed those but no effect, the pods are still winking alternately. So tried turning ignition on and switching on the lamps,
  16. Hi all I have a rebuilt TR7 engine that has been sat in my barn here for a couple of years as a spare for my restored TR7, As I don't use the 7 as much as I should I don't think I really need a spare engine kicking around. It is complete ready to drop into a car. I can deliver to Stoneleigh or en-route to Stoneleigh from Portsmouth on Saturday 10th before the show A34, A43 M40 etc etc. or perhaps I can leave it at address in Newbury or collection. I am looking for £300 if anyone is interested please let me know before the 5th feb by PM The engine does run and comes with a spare drive shaft,
  17. What looks like a bargain alternator spotted on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-ROVER-SD1-3500SE-VANDEN-PLAS-VITESSE-LUCAS-ALTERNATOR-NOS-/202088828506 and another http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-RANGE-ROVER-TRIUMPH-TR7-TVR-TASMIN-350i-390SE-LUCAS-ALTERNATOR-NOS-/202088818550 and a pair of real rarities, OE foglamps . . . . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-PAIR-OF-TRIUMPH-TR7-TR8-AUSTIN-ALLEGRO-ROVER-SD1-FRONT-FOG-LIGHTS-NOS-/192341468856 Usual disclaimers, I just spotted these browsing Cheers Alec
  18. Guys FREE for COLLECTION ONLY FROM NUNEATON - NO NEGOTIATION ON THIS. When I had my TR7 Coupe I was looking to improve front braking and was recommended to obtain and fit Capri 2.8i front brakes. Use the search function on this forum for further details and fitting instructions. The TR7 has gone and I have, in the garage, a good set of Capri 2.8i; discs, calipers, hubs, and dust covers. If these are not claimed in the next 14 days, by PM to me, they will be taken to the tip. I repeat - Free but collection from Nuneaton only (they weigh in at a very heavy figure and I am not
  19. As many of you may be aware, over the years I've squirrelled away an awful lot of TR7, TR8 and V8 parts both new and used. Over the past couple of years I have thinned the stock considerably, now that we have only the TR8 Drag Car and my son Tom's black fhc remaining with us, but there is a fair amount still in my store. That amounts to all sorts, from rusty old wheels and endless minor items through to various used and even a new panel or two, and assorted mechanicals of many a variety through electrics and trim. Quantity wise, think a proper Transit, not Connect or Partner size, van
  20. Not often you see a pair of nos original TR7 seatbelts . . . . . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-GENUINE-BRITISH-LEYLAND-TRIUMPH-TR7-TR8-LH-RH-SEAT-BELT-KITS-NOS/192303203568?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 Nowt to do with me - I have bought odd Humber items from Simon, excellent seller, so tend to look occasionally at what he's offering, and spotted these. Cheers, Alec
  21. This has just popped up on a clearance auction house website. I have been noodling the idea of a Triumph track car for a couple of years. Any thoughts as to whether this looks like a good basis for a track car? I am possibly going up to see it on Tuesday if I can get away from the orifice. I am also liaising with the red baron team on this. Thoughts gratefully received... https://vavato.com/en/?utm_source=Website+contacts&utm_campaign=10b809ca8a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_09_12&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b079693c05-10b809ca8a-67523869#!/auctions/59a7b0d878879/lots/19
  22. Hi I have a late 1981/82 TR7 and fancied a different steering wheel. The new wheel came with a Springalex Boss type SB003 which is suppose to be correct for TR7s.The boss would not fit far enough down the steering column to do the retaining nut up and is a bit loose on the spline. Had the rear taper on boss opened up and it will now go on the steering column ok but is a loose fit on the spline. The original steering wheel is the late type PKC151. Does anyone know if the later TR7s were fitted with a different upper steering column and can help recommend a source for a suitable boss. Many t
  23. Here's a pdf of the talk: https://supertrarged.wordpress.com/2017/07/10/how-does-an-su-carburettor-work/ There's information about SUs ( and Stromberg CDs) that will probably be new even to most SU experts: 'mixture spread'. ======== May I thank those of you who braved the sauna-like conditons in the Friesen Shed. And may I apologise that you could not hear me. I do not have a loud voice and the PA for the arena defeated my best efforts. In my defence I had requested months before that a lapel mic and amp-loudspeaker be provided. It was not there. So I have suggested to the powers tha

  25. A company I came across several years ago, looking for component to make up a fuel pressure testing rig, and have subsequently used for odd requirements. They seem to have a vast selection of products, and by phone were knowledgeable and more than helpful . . . . . also have an ebay shop https://www.advancedfluidsolutions.co.uk/ http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Venair-Silicone-Hose-World/Terms-and-Policys.html Usual disclaimers, I don't know the folks there, simply found them useful ! Cheers Alec
