    Hi Folks,

Just thought I should bid you all farewell as I saw my TR6 off with its new owner today. I've had it 12 years and during that time completely rebuilt it. Much of this I could not have done without this great forum and you folks on it.

Sage words, clever advice and some fun discussion. What I cannot belive is that during this time I posted more than 2000 times. That's more conversation then I have with my wife!

This does not mean I am leaving triumph ownership. I still have a 3.9L stag and recently acquired a MK IV spit for my son.  I'll probably still pop in but now as a non-owning "expert"?

    Thanks again everyone

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

Did you end up selling with the H/T ?

    Cheers.

Yes thats the one, couldnt remember his second name. That must be a beast now with the EFI as well.

    Stuart.

Yes, I think so. I think he is currently in the early stages of engine mapping and running it in actually.  Will try and obtain a current picture.

A very nice Manifold, running in a 2.5 saloon in your country somewhere. Leastways it was when that picture was taken many years ago.

    Stuart.

The car belongs to Andy Thompson. He still has it. It has a 2.7L motor now, with steel crank, rods, forged pistons, and now on EFI.

  4. Hi All,

Does any one have any a excellent condition TR6 grille for sale please. In particular, the surround with X8 threads that attach it to the front panel in good condition.

    Thanks in advance.

Probably open a bag or worms with this one but here goes. Whilst the car is up on axle stands with the diff out I thought I would drain the engine oil take the sump off see if it needs straightening  and refit to again try and stop some more of my cars identity crisis. It thinks it's the Torrey Canyon. However what oil to use I have no idea whats in it or for how long. In the past I have used Valvoline 20W50 VR1 racing oil in the Avenger but it was a high revving semi comp engine. TRGB suggest Penrite 20w/60 but the problem is our engines need more than 5 litres and I am not sure you can get Penrite in 1 litre cans. I still have some Valvoline left from my last oil change on the Avenger so it might be the way to go. The engine on the TR as far as I know is standard.

Anybody got any other suggestions dos or don't use.

    Phil.

    Hi.

I use Penrite 20/60 and it is excellent. You can buy in 5L cans from Classic oils

Thanks for all the replies. I am building my efi around modified standard throttle bodies (Fred Millturn). I have the throttle bodies on the car but am still running lucas injection

I see jenvey do a tr6 specific throttle body set up which also looks good but will persevere with what I have for now.

The cam bores in my current engine are a bit loose so need to get them line bored and bearings fitted.

So plenty of work to do.

    Chris

Do you have a local machine shop to do the cam bearings ? If you're stuck, give me a shout, there is a company near me that offer this service. Had mine done in 2011 by them.

    Cheers.

    Thanks Mike,

The info is much appreciated. I was thinking of trying to mount the ECU in the engine bay but will probably do similar to your installation.

    Chris

    Hi.

My K6 Emerald ECU is mounted just under the battery tray, inside the cabin, away from any passengers accidentally knocking it with their feet. It has two brackets to hold into position, and velcro straps to remove if necessary for ease of access.

    Hi John,

i have only just seen your question.  Thanks for the response.  Before the installation of the new cam, there was 160 bhp at the wheels.  The new cam, with the "flat spot" from 4 to 5K rpm gave 150 bhp.  Replacement of the PI system by 3 x 45 DCOE Webers has fixed the problem. So I now have a PI system and the earlier camshaft for sale.

    Jim Johnstone

    Hi Jim,

    Hope you are well ?

How are you finding things now you have moved over to DCOE's ?

    Cheers.

A friend in his 9th decade with (3) TR6s, one with Eaton S/C producing over 200BHP at the wheels uses a block of wood stuffed into the RR differential mount to prevent the stud from upward movement when reacting the torque of the engine multiplied by (4) in 1st gear. He prefers cheap tires and relishes spinning the wheels on takeoff, the usual culprit in diff mount breakage ( an American specialty as this market always " knew " the TR6 was good for more than the emissions cars delivered ). The spring outriggers are another matter; not sure he's done anything with these apart from fitting stiffer, shorter springs which, if anything, ought to raise the prospect of cracking them. He does employ Toyota transmissions and Nissan differentials.

That sounds a rather entertaining car.  Any pictures ? Does it still run the original TR6 diff ?

    Cheers.

Hi, no doubt this has been discussed many times, but are there any preferences for lead additives for the PI system? I generally use either Castrol valve master or Millers VSPE in other classic engines.

To be honest I'm not even totally convinced anything's required for 500 miles a year of gentle driving, and I think all my components are new enough to be ethanol compliant (although I always stick to E5/Vpower or similar anyway)

Just curious what the rest of you all do....

    Thanks

    Graham

You can always fill periodically with 20l of avgas. 100LL (low lead).  I can still buy it from my local airport. £2.12/litre INC.

    Cheers.

    Hi Graham,

It is not required. Just fill with the highest octane possible every time, and you will be fine.

    Cheers.

    ( different Tom )

My trick engine made 201 BHP @5900 rpm so far on 40DCOEs. It's got an interference cam, superlight unbreakable Carillo rods and supposedly impossible domed forged pistons. ).030" overbore. Head was a Racetorations issue which he worked over to gain another 18% flow.

I say " so far " because the builder didn't have the patience for me to dial in some 42s I had restored by Mike Pierce in California. With a little luck it might make another 10 or so. What he did on that motor few if any have ever done and it pulls like hell - 131 lb-ft of torque at 1800 rpm, reaching 185 lb-ft by the end.

I'm still all in on Weber DCOEs. To date I haven't seen anything more appealing, but then I'm averse to electronics generally and can't imagine anything giving better reliability than the Webers ( done 143,000 miles so far on a used set installed in 1996 with zero replacement parts or failure of any kind ).

I'm even using a factory AC mechanical fuel pump.

    Hi Tom,

Very good. I have Carrillo rods in my motor, and they are a bloody good rod.

which cam do you have in yours ?

    Cheers.

You have several options throttle options.

The new bespoke Jenvey manifold/throttle body kit.

Modified standard inlet/throttle bodies. (DIY or from fredmillturn)

Weber style inlet manifolds mated to DCOE fit throttle bodies (from Jenvey but good copies from China used by the Nissan 240s etc) As well as Jenvey heritage throttle bodies which look like Webers.

All of the above can be mated to your chosen ECU, tps temp sensors etc. Emerald seems to be a favourite and has a built-in atmospheric pressure sensor.

Just in the research stage so not done it myself yet.

I got the whole package from Emerald, including the Cannon inlet manifold. I went for Jenvey throttle bodies, but the Jenvey Heritage look good.  They were not available when I purchased all the kit back in 2017, nor the bespoke Jenvey manifold/throttle body kit, just released.

    Any questions, just ask.

    Cheers.

Richard71 a mate of mine made the airbox as it is very tight in there due to a short indent in the wheel arch as per TR5 and early  TR6. Later TR6,s had the full indent which enables the bigger air box which he has a couple left as below. I just love how we all approached EFI and the work that went into it to achieve the same end. (CK that looks so sexy)

What power did this make on the Emerald RR- can you remember ?

    Cheers.
