  1. Not unreasonable if Duncan and I were full time employees. However, we are not. Duncan was in bed all week feeling awful whilst I was preparing for the AMM amongst many others things. I thought 6 days from discovery to fix was a good response. Duncan had two goes at fixing it as the first 'fix' only solved part of the issue. Testing revealed more work was required, more time and more testing until we were happy that it was fixed.

I don't think we can promise live updates but I understand the point you are making. I will try to keep the forum updated in issue at hand. However, if John M. has the time then it might be more effective to use him as the primary point if contact as the mods can fix many things and escalate those that they can't.

  2. I have the same issue. I accessed them a few weeks/months back.

Contacting the office only adds another step in the resolution process. Let John Morrison know the issue or contact Duncan Bradley directly. I would normally do this but just closing down the PC as I am off to the NEC for 4 days.

    Thanks,

    Mick

  3. John,

It is, as ever, never that simple. There were a whole raft of changes implemented to try to stop the spam attacks earlier this year. Most were not visible to users. However, the combination of two different actions inadvertently stopped non-logged in users seeing the forum. This went undetected by everyone for some time as all the regulars are logged in. It was only when, some time later, Google removed all the indexing, that this issue was discovered and highlighted on the forum. That was on the Saturday. Duncan, who is now our IT guru, investigated and it took two separate actions to resolve the issue by the following Friday. Duncan had asked for guidance from me before making the changes: I felt that giving non-members access to the forum was more important that reducing spam, I hope you agree.

    WARNING: spam attacks might return!

The website/forum software needs to be updated to improve security. That will be part of the changes that will come with the new suite of IT later this year. No implementation work has started yet, we are still in the details planning/requirements stage. For example: new requirements came out of the GL meeting on Sunday.

Can I ask that if and when you see a problem like this, please let John Morrison and the moderating team know by pm or email, not just posting. I monitor the forum regularly but not daily. I can miss an issue quite easily. If they cannot fix it, then they can escalate the issue to Duncan or myself.

    Thanks, Mick

  5. Still on the road. This was it with us on the TR Tours - TRs & Trabants trip to Romania in 2022. Driven by Peter Pratt and his son. Goes exceptionally well and driven hard. Shropshire to Bucharest in 2 1/2 days. Does the Tulip rally every year. No need to polish it.

  6. Bookings opened this morning with the usual first thing rush. Still plenty of availability for the weekend and an extra night at the main event hotel. You could organise your own tour with a few mates and use the tour routes, driving them opposite way round would be even more fun: lots of arm exercise waving at TRs from all over Europe.

Details, pricing and booking all on line: https://www.europeantrs.club/ Create an account and follow the links.

  7. Good idea, as the Scottish Weekend 2023 was still on the dropdown menu, I changed the title and made it link to the event page. Try it now. Never knew I could do that - probably get told off by Wayne!! We still need booking information to be added by Charlie.

TR Register should have promoted this widely before the event !

    Chris.

Yes, I agree. Having personally advised Paul of the club's decision to provide the prize money back in June, the next I hear of this project is reading this thread. This was clearly a surprise to too many people in the club: a missed opportunity.

  9. These parts were kindly donated by Neil Revington for the TR Youth. They have taken everything they need so the rest is up for grabs by the rest of the membership.

This weekend only, lots of bargains. Please come and have a rummage. Everything must go, we need the space.

  10. Well done Paul. Shame that your article missed the latest issue but as Pete says Trev is still new to the role and still relatively new to the club, so please give him some leeway. It will still be news to 99% of the club when it hits the next issue.

For those people who didn't read the article: you would have read that the TR Register donated the £500 prize money. The club supported Pauls' efforts to the full extent that he requested. The MT made that decision back in June. Nice to hear now that the project did go ahead and was a success.

  11. Duncan Bradley, our new IT guru, is playing with the settings to try to solve a number of conflicting issues. You will see things continue to change over the coming days as we try to optimise security vs. unwanted intrusions on the forum. As stated previously the basic forum software cannot be updated to the latest version until we also update the website platform, a much more significant and costly step.

    Mick

  12. In response to the Spam Attacks, Wayne checked that all the required anti-spam tools were already enabled: they were. He then made a change to the setup that required sign-in for new users, this should not have impacted existing users. Jo is having to answer lots of questions from forum users. Users who have not previously signed in, now need to sign in. It is another security measure.

We still need an update to the basic forum software but cannot do that with our existing website platform, it is too old and incompatible. We are on the case, as you can read elsewhere.

I think all things evolve and part of the excitement is that BMW are starting to re- acknowledge the Triumph and especially the TR  Marque.

I agree Hamish, that is the big picture here. I just hope that the response from the public, press and sportscar enthusiasts can convince BMW to launch an electric sportscar using the Triumph and TR brands to rival the Tesla Roadster (2nd gen) and the MG Cyberster. It would look very different to this concept. Then the marque will have a future and bring with it all the potential benefits to the club, if we embrace it.

  14. If only life were that simple, IT certainly is not. You will read in the next TR Action's Chairman's Chat about a one year long project lead by a very experienced IT expert who has looked in depth at the whole issue of our software: its security, its ease of use by the members and office workload with future proofing at the heart of it. It is obvious to all that we need to implement a much later version of the forum software to improve its security and allow us more features. Doing one element of the software suite is like upgrading the engine but not doing anything with the brakes.  We have been strongly advised to implement a full suite of new software at the same time as they feed off each other and complement each other. This will be a big change with a corresponding investment requirement - not something to rush into without proper due diligence. Watch this space for more news.

In the meantime we need to thank the moderators for doing a great job with some old tools. Even as a reasonably regular user of this forum, I have not personally witnessed any of the SPAM.  That shows what a great job they are doing for us, thank you.

    Mick
