    That’s where it starts!  Resources like this forum and others like Youtube are a huge help and the satisfaction you get from doing things yourself (as well as saving a tonne of money) is a great feeling.  These cars are dead easy to keep going if you’re motivated enough.  Don’t sell yourself short!

I’m pretty sure I did this repair with the sump in place.  What I did more recently when I rebuilt my engine was used exhaust manifold studs in the holes (in the installed helicoils) and set them in place with thread lock and nuts and washers to secure the rear of the sump.  Not sure if you can do this with the engine in the car and the sump in place but I think its a good repair.

Earlier this winter I took my lights apart to clean them and change the gaskets.  During the cleaning I was surprised to see how fragile the silver coating in the reflectors is so I used a good quality aluminum tape (3M) to replenish the areas where i had rubbed it off.  I have LEDS also but want my lights to be as bright as possible…

    I think the bolts should be fine and if your bearings aren’t showing obvious wear and your oil pressure was good they can probably be reused.  You could plasti-gauge it to verify clearance if you like but you’re probably going to be fine..  after all, if you hadn’t had an oil leak you wouldn’t be worrying about this to begin with…!  (No disrespect intended!  I know what it’s like getting into a potential tin of worms; it’s hard to know when to stop…!)

    If you had a blown head gasket and were getting coolant into the combustion chambers, you would see your exhaust turn white…

  6. That’s pretty good!  I repurposed my cam gear into a coaster after media blast, paint, and putting gasket material on the bottom.  It turned out well but I haven’t decided what to do with the old cam yet.  I had thought it could be a handle for a large cupboard door or something like that…

    I’d be happy to when able. I have a NA model with carburetors so my connections wont be the same as a PI model but i can definitely still do so…

  8. I bought one a few years ago from Amazon called Depstech which requires a download of their app.  You can connect an iOS (not sure about Samsung) device to it wirelessly and view the picture on the device screen and take pictures.  Here is an example of the picture quality:

    The clarity of the picture in my album is better than what this upload would suggest.

     

  9. My heater core is bypassed but I think I would raise the front of the car (use ramps perhaps), remove the thermostat and housing, open the heater valve and pour into both the block and the radiator until you can’t add any more.  Install the thermostat with the gasket, run it, let it cool (still on ramps), and add coolant as necessary. 

  10. Once you have everything back together, don’t forget to pump the pedal a couple of times before you take the car out for a road test…there can be too much “slack” in the calipers if the pistons were pushed completely in to the caliper bore and if you don’t do this your first application might not stop you…
