    Many (most?) sat navs will run off a USB port, and such can be linked to a USB 'bus' that will allow more than one device to be run. On my TRansit I have a satnav, a tyre pressure monitor and it charges my phone! AND, you can find USB ports that include a Voltmeter, so you can monitor the battery health as well!     This happened to me last week. Ambulance with Blues & Twos could be clearly heard approaching, so not just for the red light. I was at the front and was the only driver to move forwards cautiously to let it though. Although it was two cars behind me, no one else shifted. Fortunately, the lights changed shortly and it 'proceeded'. I had no qualms about being victimised by a traffic camera, as the Ambulance Service would have records of its vehicles' 'shouts', an d their urgency, as would the Fire Service. That would be less likely for a Police vehicle, unless it had the Blues &

    That eruption has died down now. But it was most spectacular! Look on YouTube for a real time episode from AndreB (e acute accent)! It just burst from the earth, and develops into an enormous fire fountain in seconds. John

    All, I hope to be out at Donington with the CSCC that weekend. Forecast is hopeful, dry and some sun, but cold.     With respect, ChrysW, there is nothing worse for a TR PI engine than infrequent use, while starting and running it more often. Sooted plugs and clogged injectors are the result, as Andy has indicated. Spring is here! Time to get it out on the road! Next year, bed it down for the winter in a nice, well ventilated garage, with some fuel stabiliser in the tank and run through the engine, tyres over inflated (with a note on them to re-adjust next spring) and fully antifrozen . Leave it alone until the Spring! Have a good time! John

    Rob, Do you have a "pre-engaged" starter, AKA "Hi-Torque" - it doesn't look like OE equipment. Easy to tell,.t not from the angle of your photo, but the extra wires from the main starter terminal are a clue. A pre-engaged has a second, cylinder on top of (or below) the main motor cylinder, like this, from Rimmer's catalogue: The second cylinder is a servo, that throws the starter pinion at the flywheel gear ring to engage. Only after that has happened will the servo connect the starter motor, so if the servo fails (dull click) will the motor turn. If you ha

    But French Racing Blue, Blue de France, is a specific shade, with a "Hex triplet" which seems to be an industry identifier, of its own, #318CE7! So does Italian Rosso red (#D40000), but I suppose that German silver isn't a colour, just the appearance of sanded aluminium! John

    My paper has a small column saying that on Iceland, Katla  is NOT about to blow, but is emtting tens of thopusands of tons of CO2 daily.  1% of the UKs dialy emission.

    Just managed a late booking! Then, went on to browse the 'Net a little, and visit the Astronomical Picture of the Day (APoD), a favourite of mine. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html22/6/15 That reminds us that on that same day, 14th July, and at a UK favourable time, ten to noon, GMT (so near 11am, Summer Time), the New Horizons probe will be at its closest to Pluto. Wholly irrelevant, but another sort of excitement. I'll bring my radio, to hear the 12 O'clock news! John

    I heard of this before, but assumed it was a dealer-fitted mod, to cater for the, ahem, weight challenged US owner. Or was it a standard addition? Do you know which? And why?
