+1 for Hardy engineering. They have worked on Healey, Jags MG TRiumph They have done my OD and GB and all is well. Roger

Hi Clem, if you can keep the wiring straight then use Rob's circuit If the wiring is a bit wrinkled then use Pete's circuit. Roger
-
My understanding of TRiumph's action of not fusing the lights (apart from cost saving) is that installing the wires in a safe fashion was more reliable than using the fuses of the time. - you didn't want the lights going out just at the wrong time. How often did under-dash fires start in the 'old' days. It seems daily at present. Roger

Hi Clem, if it is of any use the BHA4578 (pull switch) is also available as a toggle switch BHA4786 (MGB wiper swiych) Roger.

Hi Clem the switch for this motor is a bit special. It is the same switching as the TR4A but a different body. BHA4578 TR4A switch BHA4578 Here TR5 wiper switch ~81, 82, 83 Here The above will work but not an ordinary switch Roger

There two types of material that can be used. One is a black spongy material that also forms the outer surface. It is the cheaper of the two but looks **** The second material is a white foam sponge that has a separate moulded vinyl outer layer. Is more expensive but similar to the original construction. Roger

The slow speed is achieved by adding a 10 Ohm resistance wire in series with the field winding. If this wire burns out (and they do, quite easily) then the slow will die. Should the wire change its resistance then the speed may well change. With the back plate off you should be able to see the wire - with a test meter check the value of the resistance. A fixed 10 Ohm 5Watt resistor can be put in place. PS - this resistance reduces the torque of the motor. It really is quite useless. Roger

Perhaps the price shown is the Incl VAT sum. Unless they have gone for Bastuk then they are the ones. Bastuk will have their name cast in them somewhere. So, I believe they are them. Roger
-
Hi Chris, the Moss webcat shows the price at £330 + VAT each. Hubs Roger

These motors are useless at the best of time. Send it back and get your money back Consider fitting a 14W TR6 motor - they actually work. To see your colours Remove the back plate and look inside - you should be able to so sheathing that is not sun bleached. Roger

Hi James, I will certainly help install it but as a demo I think that is asking murphies law to come into operation. Roger -

Hi James, I don't know how other boxes do it but on mine to come out of OD a simple touch of the switch. When I was in Germany, Blackforest - the straights on the hills were in 3rdOD and the hairpins in 3rd - no clutch just a simple tap of the switch IN & OUT Roger -

Hi Phil, on first sight all the wires ( 7 ) look daunting. But they are colour coded and fit direct into the the car. On the 'A' type two wires are switched over on the 6RA OD Relay. Wires for the operating switch and Indicator LED need to be laced through the steering column loom About 1 hours work Forget that they are 'electric' wires - imagine they are brake pipes and it becomes easy. Roger -
They've just had a whip round for more beer Sorry.

I think you should be able to as it should be to the new original size. However I have not done that. Roger

Hi John, are you referring to the grab handle? If so most DIY type members can recover it. I've done a couple. I believe TRGB also undertake this service. The TRShop sell there NEW grab handle and Moss also have a new grab handle. Not sure what Rimmer has. The TRShop item looks very good. If you recover your own do consider that the extra layer will make fitting the back plate a bit difficult. The new ones do not have the back plate. Roger

Hi folks, has anybody seen this https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2024-05-11/cars/ref-24-1966-triumph-tr4a-irs-surrey-top-sb/ My good mate is interested. I spotted a couple of howlers but what have I missed. I think it is a bit on the dear side. Roger

Hi Richard, in the UK Serck Motorsport do good rad repairs. https://www.serckmotorsport.co.uk/ There are also a number of one man bands but they are getting fewer I had RadWeld in a TR4A rad for over a year until I chickened out. Roger

Hi Richard, that is how the TR4 cable is fitted (no angle drive) There are longer speedo cables available to ease the bending. Roger
