  1. Hi Pete,

I brought a set of ARE magnesium wheels back from the states and had them crack tested and refinished by Ian Jemison. http://www.ianjemison.co.uk/

I was a little concerned with putting a set of original mag ARE wheels on my TR but the crack testing gave them a clean bill of health and the finish that was applied stopped all further corrision. They still look as good as they did when finished and have done @18K since. Ian Jemison offers great advice from my experience.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

  2. Gentlemen,

As the title indicates I am trimming a hardtop and rearscreen this afternoon, I am taking my time and everything is going fine. I am however pondering how far to pull the vinyl round or where to finish the vinyl at the rear of the hard top.

Would anybody be able to forward or publish a photo of how this should be finished for my clarification/sanity?

    Thanks

    Chris

  3. I would imagine that a car with the rear screen and hard top on will return better mpg than a convertible TR4, as it would be more aero dynmically efficient?

Does anybody have any experience of this aspect?

  4. Hi

I am clearing out my garage and these original TR4 steel wheels take up too much space so have listed them on ebay.

Might be of interest to someone here. If you have any questions or want more photos please shout.

It would be good to see them off to a good home!

  5. Tim,

IF, and that is a big IF the glove box lid and hinges are still available I would be interested and would be happy to pay shipping and donate £60 to either Cancer Research or a charity of your choice. If formulites think that is not a fair price please say......no offence will be taken.

    Cheers

    Chris

  6. Tim,

It may be worth you speaking with the lads at TR Enterprises. I was only speaking with them last week and they were showing me a steering rack they have developed and it was a quality bit of kit. It would be up to the rigours that you would put it under :). Those lads know what they are doing.

  7. Would it be possible for somebody to publish the 11+ gallon TR4 fuel tank dimensions, and then I can start looking for a suitable replacement.

    Thanks

    Chris

  8. Roger,

I don't think you are on your own with a petrol tank of 8 or 9 gallons. My TR4 also has a tank of only 9 gallons, as I have never got more than 41 litres in it.....from empty. I had believed the workshop manual 'quoted' capacity of 53.5 litres or 11 3/4 gallons, always believing the fuel gauge simply under read, until driving around lake maggiore last year. Yes I ran out of juice! only 41 litres went in. Now with the benefit of hind sight I must have been running on fumes on many occasions!

    Cheers

  9. Chaps,

I thought that this is worth bringing to your attention.

Four and a half years ago I installed a Hi Torque starter motor into my TR4, the unit came from Powerlite, Brierley Hill in the West Midlands, and it had run faultlessly over that time up until recently. In March I thought there was an indication that something was up, but it was only temporary so forgot about it until Saturday when the car failed to start totally. After a little bit of diagnosis I concluded that the drive gear had failed so decided to take the starter motor out. As it was a Bank Holiday weekend I couldn't contact Powerlite to see if they offer a refurbishment service until the Tuesday, but when I did they confirmed they do. The unit went off to them on the Tuesday, delivered on the Wednesday, they called me on the Thursday and confirmed it was indeed the drive gear that had failed.

Obviously the Starter unit was out of warranty, but to help me out and to get the car back on the road quickly they dispatched a new replacement with a 50% discount as a matter of good will. Dispatched on the Thursday hopefully with me Friday for fitting over this weekend.

What was so refreshing is that I wasn't even complaining, I was expecting to pay for my old unit to be refurb'ed and to get the unit back perhaps 10 to 14 days later. Powerlite took the lead and made the offer!

In my mind this is a level of service that needs to be applauded nowadays, as it is rare. By the way I am in no way connected to this company :P

    Regards

    Chris

  10. There should be a white TR4 on the 7.30am crossing from Dover to Dunkirk on Friday 20th Sept, heading to Spa for the weekend if all is well, having just returned from the CT 10CR run :). This might just give time for the car to have cooled off! Staying in Malmedy somewhere - L'horizon.

    Cheers

    Chris
