    TR4 Brake Calipers

OK, I had new rubbers and seals fitted to my old calipers as when the pistons were removed they had a fine surface of rust not completely knackered. The problem I have now is when I pump the pedal a few times the O/side front wheel locks. The other 3 are ok. If I release some brake fluid via the bleed nipple then it frees straight away. I have removed the restrictor valve a few years ago, so it's not that that is sticking. I have put a new flexible brake hose on as well, so shouldn't be that breaking down. I'm thinking that there is a blockage in the pipe or caliper itself to stop the fluid returning, acting like the restrictor valve. Any suggestions please? I may not be able to reply straight away but will do so ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mark, Thinking along lines of buying new as not much difference in costs between refurb.

Thanks for the info Graeme, works out about £115 for the refurb with them or £130 new from TR Shop.

    TR4 Brake Calipers

Cheers Steve Looking at the prices there at £60 each they seem pretty reasonable compared to other sites. I'll have a ring around to Bigg Red and Classic car automotive and compare their refurb and direct prices. Thanks for your help

    TR4 Brake Calipers

Lovely, thanks Tom I'll call them tomorrow. I've looked at repair kits and there are so many varying prices, I think I'd be better getting it done professionally.
  8. Hi My TR4 brake caliper pistons have rusted into the calipers. Is it an easy job to refurbish the calipers or would I be better getting new/exchange ones? Alternatively can anyone recommend where I can get them overhauled? Thanks Steve
  9. Thanks for the reply Richard. The belt I have on there at the moment has only been on for about 18 months and was bought about a year before that so no too old. I'll order another though and fit that. The last belt went the same way, wearing on the sides. I've checked the pulleys and they don't seem damaged and all are in alignment. Thanks again Steve
  10. Hi I've got a TR4 and looking to change the fan belt. It has the original pulleys and is running with a dynamo. The belt that I've got and the previous one is non cogged and marked as 20 x 900 LI. The problem is that even with full adjustment there is about 3/4" play in the longest part. Is this too much? The edges of the belt seems to wear a lot more than it shoud leaving fine rubber bits on the timing cover. Is this the correct size belt and is 3/4" too much? If the belt stretches than there is no more adjustment to be made. Steve

    Handbrake

Nick I agree, it only went that way because the shafts are in the wrong alignment. Hopefully it will be a lot tidier tomorrow Cheers Steve

    Handbrake

Help please. I removed and replaced the half shafts as I had diff problems. Problem now is that the setup for the handbrake and hydraulic pipes seems wrong. I assume that I've put the shafts in out of square if that makes sense. i.e the drum has rotated too far one way or the other. When looking at the drum what position should the handbrake lever be? The only way to get the h/brake cable to fit the o/s is to have the lever as shown in the pic. Anywhere more vertical and the cable rubs on the check strap. Looking at the manual the picture seems to suggest the lever is vertical yet the drawings I've seen suggest it is horizontal at the 12 o'clock position. Should the cables go outside or inside the check straps. Have I put the the half shafts back on the wrong sides? Do I wish I'd taken a photo first? Cheers Steve
