I think the plates have the indentation to accommodate the pressings in the floor.

If you were to have an accident, would those plastic guides snap?

In my mind the issue would be - if they forgot to fit these brackets then what else is missing.
That was my concern too....most things can be put right, but it is knowing where there is an impact on safety.
If the seller states it's MOT exempt, I would be very worried, 12month MOT would give some confidence, but not sure I trust them to be thorough, these days.
If it has seatbelts, I would also recommend checking the anchor points, e.g. item 65 in the Moss exploded diagram.

It looks like it has had new floors and sills fitted, but check if the floor mounting point braces were, as I can't see them in the pictures of the body underside.

Could it be the distributer?

It's missing its bonnet badges and the boot seal looks like it is hanging out too.

I have the same problem with a wavering Speedometer at about the 40-50Mph point. I have tried to investigate it, if I spin the cable with a drill, at the gearbox end of the cable, the speedo needle appears to be stable. So I guess this means the speedo, cable and cable routing are OK and the problem is with the gearbox.
I have also checked the dimension of the cable square end verses the size of hole in gearbox drive and there shouldn't be any way it can be slipping.
So then I gave up....

Reading this thread with interest...
Are the failures specific to IRS cars, or can the TR4 half shaft/hub fail in the same way too?

It looks like the front top flange could go up a bit more, is the front wing splash shield holding it back?

It looks like it could be bits of a bearing, from the roller carrier?

Just wondering if all covers normally sit higher than the recess in the boot floor sides. I had to repair mine (TR4) and I have it sitting flush, it didn't come with the side pieces shown in the pictures above. Guess the extra height helps with a wider tyre though.
Thanks

I replaced my fan belt for piece of mind, as the belt on the car appeared stretched as it was at the end of the possible adjustment. The new 20x900 belt was almost the same. I wonder whether there are differences in the water pump or dynamo pulley sizes?

(Assuming you have removed the circlip)
I found that although the MC piston is free, it is difficult to remove, as the internal spring isn't long enough to push it out enough to be able to get hold of it. I found that pushing the piston all the way in and then allowing it to release out quickly would sometimes work. If you still have the Clutch MC in the car, can you utilise the slave cylinder to push the piston out?
Thanks

I think if you move the rod, there is a chance the operating valve could fall off the lever, so the valve may need to be removed to realign it.

As an alternate, I was happy with the one I bought from Moss, however I went for their more expensive "Vinyl/Foam" version.

Thanks for the feedback, I've now rerouted my pipe to give it the correct support

I think if the gauge has started overreading, then the sender rheostat must have lost some of its resistance at the full end of travel. I think the gauge should read full with an approx. sender resistance of 30 Ohm, so you could try add a series resistor of similar value to limit the gauge to read about Full. However this will also likely have a negative effect of making it read Empty quicker. This may be a worse problem :-)

Well, after nearly 3 years in my ownership, my TR4 now has an MOT and is back on the road. Judging by the tax disc and MOTs that came with the car, it has possibly been of over 30 years since it was last on the road.
I've been enjoying driving the car for the first time in this weekends sunshine.
Now to start on the snagging list....

I did curse a little when I saw the news article in the latest TRAction, but not as much as I did when fitting my repro B-post. The RRP looks like it's cheaper too.

Because the main beam was flashing on, it suggests a problem with the lighting switch rather than a short to earth, as the lights are earthed at the lamps.
I'm guessing the lighting switch on the 4a is on the steering column. During your investigation, could you have trapped the Brown/Blue wire near the lighting switch or on part of the steering column loom?
