  1. Thanks guys, that’s both interesting and reassuring . This is a great forum
  2. I have been getting layers of dirt and under seal off the chassis of my newly acquired Tr3A. Happily the chassis is really sound but I was surprised to find it painted white. The car itself is red with white piping and white hood/screens and is an American import. Maybe it had whitewall tyres. So I wonder if this the original chassis colour or if has been painted at a later stage and hoped one of you gurus would know. Thanks Ollie
  3. Hi Harlequin, so I’ve decided to go for the scary blowtorch option, particularly appropriate for Halloween. A couple of questions before I start. Firstly, should I be using flux and secondly, should I be making the patch from steel or copper? Thanks, Ollie
  4. Well I have double checked and the fuel outlet on my tank is definitely on the left, which based on where it goes is a lot more sensible than having it on the right. It is also different from all the schematic drawings I have seen but I am certain it is original. Thanks for the advice on soldering, not sure about that approach, especially the scary bit. Moss tanks are all out of stock. I’ll see if I can get more information from SC parts regarding their Ali tanks. It could be that it is perfect for my fuel pipe arrangement.
  5. I took my fuel tank off and it looked great until I wire brushed a spot of rust on the part under one of the straps and exposed two pin holes. The rest looked ok so I looked around for someone to weld a repair. Turns out that not many people offer this service due to the proliferation of plastic tanks and the few that I have found are expensive. I have a LHD car so that complicates the issue as the fuel line is from the left hand side. SC parts have offered me an aluminium replacement tank which from the photo does not look quite the same. They also say that the fuel lines will have to be modi
  6. Thanks for so much interest. I measured my wheel and it also measures 7” from the edge of the hub to the rear rim edge. A 7” block of wood fits comfortably into the space but the tyre stops it going in. Tyres are 165x15. I also measured across from one rim edge to the other and got 5.25”, so clearly this is not the wheel size. The wheels are 48 spoke. As this is a side screen car and Mr.Piggott is the triumph guru, I am assuming that I must have non original 41/2” wheels. Does this make sense or am I measuring wrongly?
  7. My car is well post TS60k and an American import. Maybe that makes a difference. Does anyone know what size wire wheel was supplied by triumph as an optional extra?
  8. Carrying the sealer is a good idea
  9. The tyres fit but not the hub so I guess you maybe have the narrower wheels. I didn’t know there were two compartment sizes
  10. In that case they must have been changed from the original wires at some point . Makes sense
  11. I have recently acquired a TR3A with 51/2” wire wheels which I believe were supplied from new. Unfortunately the spare is too wide to fit into the spare wheeL compartment. So I was considering getting a “skinny” 41/2” spare. Does anyone know a) whether it will fit securely on the same hub and b) whether this is actually legal. Thanks, Ollie
