Pat on the back all those who said it was the timing - I had it set at 11deg. btdc, set it to 11deg. atdc. and it fired up correctly!
I feel like a proper numpty for not noticing this.
No excuse not starting to paint it now.
Thanks again for all your help!
Cheers Neil
Definitely not a numpty Neil, we have all been stuck at some point not being to see the wood for the trees. That's the great thing about this forum, loads of members willing to help out other enthusiasts enjoy their hobby. My 3a has been back on the road 10 years now, without this forum it would be still in bits !
cheers

I had one stick open on first run round the block this spring, I now know that there is an overflow/air hole in the top of HS6 carbs and petrol comes out at quite a rate when the needle is stuck open. Replaced with Delrin tipped needles on both carbs.
Cheers

Normally Amazon take care of it he importation documentation and TVA when you buy through them, that has been my experience so no extra charges for customs, as you say buying from some Uk suppliers is a pain with the extravagant postage charges and extra customs clearance fees

Probably took a while to sell, I can’t see many people buying an open sports car in the middle of the winter

If it’s new contact the supplier for a replacement

Would be a different story if he landed on the road or a concrete kerb instead of water. Seatbelts in our cars have limited protection in any major incident because the cars were not built with any accident protection, but they will protect you and your family from potential serious injury in a minor bump. It is the same reason I have removed the passenger grab handle on my car.

Me too, especially when attempting to make an appointment at the GP having phoned at 8.32 to find you are in a queue number 21 and finally having stayed on the phone, told there are no appointments available use our app and then read after 10 of pointless questions and numerous tick boxes none relating to you, we hope to reply without 4 days Or when you phone your bank, have you tried our app, following there is likely be a delay of 40 minutes.
Still if we didn’t hate that we’d have to find something else, it’s an age thing I’m told. We’re the grumps.
Not an age thing, when I worked in IT the users told the computer what to do, these days it’s the computer giving the orders. I remember in the 90’s going to a presentation by oracle on the future of the web.
One of the things they got really excited about was the fact that the end user would end up doing all the administration by completing web based forms which meant that companies could reduce administrative staffing levels and increase their bottom line
looks like they were right but service levels have plummeted and anything out of the ordinary is impossible to process!

I have used Burlen for years but their new website (ok I haven't visited for a couple of years) seems to lack the functionality of the old site and even when you punch in valid numbers from their parts book that I bought years ago the site can't find the reference. The only way I found the bits I needed today was by madly clicking on car type then exploded diagrams and then finally found the part I needed.
The site looks good though

hopefully the Factory fitment guide will upload below, while you will be using different brackets it gives you an idea of their mounting points. I used the document as a guide for fitting retractable belts in my 3a. I originally downloaded the document from the forum

yep, I actually think they fitted the bonnet and then added filler until it lined up with the wings instead of actually just adjusting the bonnet
Ex American car then ?

And a six nations win to go along with the celebration’s well done

The vibration could be from the bonnet stay, it’s very common.

I bought a complete set of metric, AF and whit worth spanners from Lidl for under a tenner
all joking aside, do you attend your local club meets, I am sure a couple of members would pop round on a saturday for a demo on a simple TR6 service for a constant supply of bacon butties, coffee and hobnobs

I am surprised no one has suggested a Haynes Manual, it has easy step by step instructions for servicing as well as other more complex tasks.

Hello Peter,
Thanks for the pics and thoughts but now I am puzzled.
The pulley goes behind the hub, means I have to losen the center bolt, take the hub off and then assemble the pulley from the back ?
Means it would sit at the red line ?
My wide belt pulley however was sitting as shown on the oicture however with the distance piece.
Can anyone maybe send some pics of the overall installation on the car ?
Can you measure your fan belt width. To me it looks like it already has been converted to a narrow belt

My Uncle used to work on the MG line at Abingdon at the end he was on QC, he told me stories of big lumps of wood soft faced mallets and using brute force to subtly adjust door gaps etc on finished cars, I can’t imagine it would be much different at canley

My unrestored 1976 US TR6 doesn’t have the Leyland badges and I can’t find any indication they were ever there. Very intriguing
