I was told that fitting a fan would confuse the metering unit as you could be stationary or slow moving when the fan kicked in. The metering unit would give extra fuel as the air pressure would change ?

Hi does anyone have a TR6 Plenum they no longer require. Condition is not that important as i will be modifying it to increase the diameter to 100mm . Experimenting on air flow to the throttle bodies. You might have read on a previous thread at present the car had been fitted with K&N filters replacing the standard plenum. Which works fine when moving on the open road. Sadly when in traffic, as someone mentioned before they are then basically sat in oven sucking in hot air which is causing a misfire. So decided to go back to standard but a little larger. Also considering fitting a hea

Thanks guys for the info. It would be sighted on the front of the house on the drive so needs to look fairly reasonable or might get some complaints :-). I am using one of the more expensive covers ( Concourse covers ) at the moment it does seem to do what they advertise well saying that it has bleached in colour due to the sun and I did find some water on the bonnet and they advised to use a tent water proofing spray. Which has yet to prove it works. Nikwax tent care. This was after a years weather. The car is fitted with a hardtop through winter which will help.

At the moment until I hopefully can rent a garage close by I am using an external cover. What are other owners experiences and suggestions with types of covers to use and our available. Had a thought of making something that you can pull over the car on some sort of extendable frame. It would only need to be the height and length of the car. ? thanks

Yes agree that first.

Nice finish John no sign of the join. is that now a 4’ plenum ROB

You didn’t have any problem opening up the plenum to gain the additional diameter then ? I was actually looking into fabricating a complete new plenum. The parts are fairly available. I would need to find someone to weld the alloy though.

Hi John thanks for getting back to me, so that is a standard plenum then ? It looks bigger. I was thinking of actually making one with a larger diameter tube say 4” so a 4” flexible duct can clamp on one end which has a single large K & M filter attached fitted in the space between the radiator and grill so no or very little heat is taken in from the engine bay hopefully eliminating the problem of 5 & 6 and any issues when sat in traffic.
-
Just what I am looking for. Do you have a parts list and suppliers name . I presume the ducting will clamp on the open end I am removing my three K&N filter setup due to overheating when in slow moving traffic.

Hello Michael good to hear from you. Yes the fan works well with the stat or manually. I think its a matter of the engine bay area around the filters is just getting to warm and the K&N are sucking in hot air when i am in slow moving traffic or in a queue. I did think of fitting an inline fan on the air in take to the filters controlled via an additional stat or off the radiator fan stat. Which will blast air at those filters. The other idea is to go back to a type of Plenum arrangement with a 3” duct to the front of the car and a single K&M filter on the end and in the space behind th

Thanks the car name Rover through me lol. Yes the vent goes into a catch tank which does surprisingly fill up with condensation i presume.

Jonny Hi thanks for your advise it does seem the logical reason with reference the filter’s basically sat in oven when the car is in traffic. I was considering the fan to keep a constant airflow switching with the radiator fan stat ? Does the standard set up ever have a similar issue with heat when the car is static or moving slowly in warm weather. Going back to standard is definitely an option worth considering, as you said would I be adding additional possible problems. I don’t have the plenum as it was changed by the PO but they are available on good old eBay. You mentioned the rove

Yea sorry can you explain

No not yet as I had also heard issues with the Plenum due to back pressure causing 5&6 cylinder being starved. Plus when the car is static in traffic the engine bay temperature rises and the throttle bodies struggle for air. The fan idea would blow/suck air into the engine bay. I could switch it via stat with an override. Or even connect it in parallel with the radiator fan ?

Like a lot of others i have been experiencing poor running at slow speeds in heavy traffic in the warmer weather. clearing and running fine when back on the open road. When the weather starts to cool down the issue is considerably reduced. The car is running with this set up at present as purchased excluding the additional air intake which i added. I have been considering adding an inline fan to the intake to blast air into the engine bay when standing still or in heavy traffic. Has any one tried this extra. Since this photo i have replaced the fuel lines to standard, fitted 6 replacement
