  1. Thanks guys, all useful info!
  2. Hi! I’m about to fit a set of bronze guides but I can’t find a supplier to sell me a reamer. Also, I’m not sure what size? My engine is a 73 CF, according to the brown book and my vernier the stems are both 7.87- 7.88 mm, does this equate to an imperial fraction? Any help would be appreciated. Regards Alan.
  3. Thanks for your help! The photo is indeed the original cam. Rogers piece did indeed provide the information I sought. Last night I measured the cam height on the cam I bought, which turned out to be about an eighth less, I had already noticed the lobe was much more pointed. I conclude from this, the lesser lift and shorter duration will undoubtedly reduce power significantly, so I won’t bother with it. I have decided I will have to source another cam. The followers that came with the cam are perfect, so it’s not all wasted money. I previously bought a modern distributor which had come off a CR
  4. Hi! I’m rebuilding my cf engine, and innocently (at the time) bought a used low mileage camshaft. When I stripped my engine I found the original cam is breaking up on a couple of lobes, naturally I felt pleased I had bought something earlier that would be useful! But that was before I started researching what you guys had to say about camshafts and particularly early cf examples..... I have spent many hours studying this forum but I have yet to find the camshaft type number I have bought, It’s MC24006. I was concerned at the time when I realised no-one else had bid on it! So , I’m ready to hea
  5. hi, I just thought I would add my bit, I have had experience of the wire from the coil to the distributor causing these symptoms "... I think what happens is that perhaps just one strand is left, which naturally gets hot, which raises it’s resistance. It took me a while to figure this out, because every time I checked it with my voltmeter it looked ok because the meter needs very little power to work, unlike the coil. The other very common problem is the ‘pigs tail’ wire between the points and the connection on the distributor body. Good luck!

Hi, Thanks to you all for your feedback! I do have another question.... The missing isolater switch. I have seen pictures of a switch on a bracket on some saloons at the base of the gearstick for the reverse lights, is this one to prevent overdrive selection in reverse?. Also, by the way, I have the original non overdrive box, which has a switch either side on the gearbox top. Bearing in mind the car came back from the states, what is the second switch for? Regards Alan.

The Hi, I have here more photos as requested. Sadly I doubt my box is anything special, very likely exchange. At one point in my career I worked for a main dealer where I had to rebuild a steering box with a new casing rather than simply fit a new box because it would save eight pounds! Maybe that happened with this box whilst under warranty? I will let you know if it turns out to have 5 gears and overdrive as well! Regards Alan.
