  1. Note that you have fitted the half grommets on the bonnet.

From the bottom up as per moss catalogue or as per the article

in the old moss magazine I.e.from the top down ?

Hi Jim, sorry I did not get back to you sooner but I have only just seen this message, for some reason I don`t seem to have been notified.

Anyway, I did them according to the article, from the top down and used a countersunk bolt and nut with a washer under  to flare out the grommet. Finished off with a plain bolt and washers to squeeze it as flat as I could.

I found that I had to run a suitable drill through after to get the Dzus fastener through, and to this day I have been unable to get the retaining washers on, not that they wouldn`t go on, but I cannot get them over the fastener let alone try flattening them out, the hole in the retainer is too small ( or the fastener too big).

However they are in and hold the hood shut, I might have another go at the retaining washers when I run out of other more important stuff to do.

Hi there all Dzus fastener users!

Im picking up this thread as I too need to fit new Dzus fasteners when the paint on my TR3 bonnet is dry.

When I last did this in  about 1973  on the same bonnet, I borrowed a compression tool set from Cox & Buckles  (Whatever happened to them...) consisting of a dished cup, 2 stage dyes and mandrels (can't quite remember)...   Apparently people after me also borrowed the set but failed to return it..   Sad.

So, how do we go about pressing the aluminium half grommet (552973) into a uniform doughnut profile? And without wrecking the chrome on the head of the Dzus fastener or similar?  Once the aluminium grommet is flat enough, there should be enough of the shaft of the fastener to show through on the under side, to flip the securing washer (552972) by compressing with a with a suitably sized socket?  But y9ouve got to hold the Dzus fastener in place from the top side....

If possible, I would prefer to fit my new ones by 'controlled compression' rather than the line everything up and 'wack with a hammer' until its there.. (the Cox & Buckles approach)

Does anyone have any knowledge of where I can get a tool that will compress this washer - or even the full proper fitting tool set?    Perhaps someone offers a fitting service somewhere?  Or will someone hire /  lend  me the kit ?    Thanks everyone in advance. Tony BS
