Cheers mate, 911 going to Le Mans, so would like to take the 5 to Spa, or though it's tempting to take the 911 to buzz around with SPARKY

Cheers Gary, as soon as I posted, I had realised that of curse I should have an a type overdrive, too much time working on friends and the 6's we bought and sold years ago..
I know John of course, but haven't seen him for some time and would welcome his advice, thanks for the link
Problem occurred in 2nd, it felt as if the overdrive was trying to come without being asked to and therefore no drive, no issues in 1st, 3rd or 4th?
Cheers Carl

Apologies I cant find my original thread, for sometime now I have had issues with no drive in second gear, unfortunately it was intermittent but getting less so, so I bit the bullet and took the gearbox out this weekend
Removing the top cover all gears and rings look to the untrained eye, appear to be in very good health, very little swarf on the magnetic drain plug, the gearbox number is G565137, however this has been over stamped and I cant make out all of the original numbers, below is another stamp 23 L 66, I assume this is the year
I am now not sure what this gearbox is from, a saloon perhaps?, the solenoid is also mounted vertically, which in partly is what has led me to think this isnt the original gearbox to the car.
Question is where do I go from here, take the gearbox and overdrive to a specialist, I have been recommended to Overdrive repair specialists in Sheffield
All thoughts welcome and anyone have a reference guide to gearbox numbers
Cheers Carl

Bide your time and pick up secondhand snap on and build your set up as they become avIlable at sensible prices on eBay, gumtree etc

Gary I have adjustable spax fitted all round, can't tell you what the settings are though, but very simple to wind them down to the stiffest setting, go for a drive and keep adjusting until your happy. I also have spacers for the springs when your going away fully laden to keep the rear end from dragging on the ground when being given plenty

An inline valve, hidden or otherwise, would be useful from time to time. My current solution is to clamp the rubber hose just before the inlet to the fuel pump with one of the smaller versions of these plastic fuel line/hose clamps. Available from many sources, they work perfectly -- I have a pair in the boot kit.

I went for knock-on Minator minilites, easy replacement and kept a wire as a spare, to keep down the cost, rather than buy 5 bolt on minilites.

I had thought to suggest that, but didnt want to be laughed out of town, clearly overdrive not working at all could be down to oil levels but struggled to understand why it might happen when not actually engaging overdrive.
Cheers Carl

Sure is a puzzle, it does feel like the overdrive coming in without being engaged by me though.

Thanks Mark, that was one of my thoughts. Cheers Carl

Gents
Did a 1,000 mile trip to Spa and back and didnt miss a a beat, got in it last Friday for a local TR weekend and I have an intermittent problem when selecting 2nd gear it feels like no drive/clutch slip and then it bites. Feels a bit like overdrive trying to engage, but without me selecting over drive, all other gears and overdrive have no issues.
Unfortunately I am not going to be able to investigate for sometime, but was looking for a steer in the meantime.
