  1. Harking back to the good old days when we used to drive our cars long, hard and always fast on the tightest of budgets.

Did you all have the same modus-operandi of simply rotating the liners 90 degrees every time the engine was completely clapped-out?

Anyone done it more than three times? How many miles on the same old engine?

My sister (one of the many) was staying at the Thurstone  Hotel, which is near where your Mother lives Hamish, and sent this pic of the ‘scruffy corner’ of the car park…. Maybe just a normal day at that particular hotel?

Yes Hamish, I should have referenced it however, my eldest son is just back from a season in Italy and was hounding me as ever .. I have only seen it on Bonhams

Thanks Richard, very valid point (for anyone considering a cheeky bid) ….. same went through my mind and I don’t think it is clear, when the (extensive) photos came on line I was just pleased to see that it was not an automatic gearbox..

  5. Great stuff Pete, I’ve missed a couple of weeks (used to think I know all about the ‘challenges’ of running TR4’s after having a few and busy all over Asia and then straight onto N Denmark)…… Who’d have guessed Tolkien door’s the next time I look in?………… My first and favourite all time boat in the world was called ‘Gwahir’ when I managed to acquire her …. Story was ‘Gwaihir’ was the Eagle "who would carry you to safety" from Lord of the rings story, hence the ‘Eagle’ on the main sail.. Sad to say, I could never get into the books… to date?!………. And promptly renamed her "Josephine C’ after my Mum

  6. Yep Bob….

Firstly however, apologies to Hamish (all) for my mischievous behaviour….I did not / would not bid on this beast’…

John Dodd was from Epsom and the car has now ‘come back home’ according to his son, Paul, who I was chatting with along with the new custodian whilst trying to get her to fire-up…..think we managed about two cylinders before I finally baled out when they resorted to trying every switch on the dash (which did get the indicator going)

Don’t know if I am just getting old and or my dog just dying has made me so miserable……. However, this was a vehicle that filled me with awe back in the day and now I can only see a ‘tatty monstrosity’!?

Sure I will get over it and best of luck to whoever takes it on (at that price!) but, certainly not for me…..

Look what I’ve just gone and done……..

  8. Terrific thanks Deggers….. Sadly David Redwood passed away, he was a wonderful man and teammate- we won the Classic Malts together- his son, Nigel, is very much alive (albeit looking slightly older nowadays) and always a fast, fun and fierce competitor.

David and Nigel both had/still has potent 3A’s and sister, Niki, used to campaign in her TR2; we revelled in ‘knocking the big Healeys and - annoyingly competitive- MGA’s off the podiums……. Happy Days!

  9. This was the music system in "the best steak restaurant in all Thailand " …… I kid you not, they had one record that they continually played on the same side (B side must have been seriously **** or, scratched?)

bonus prize for anyone who can recognise the system and how to put the right way op! ;)

Good enough reason to get him back on board Sue?….. Ask him if Are any still airworthy?

  11. Thanks Mike, I made a mess of that … you all recognise the plane though, anyone ever flown it?…. My old neighbour and good friend, a Yorkshireman then living in Toulouse, "built the wings" and had wonderful stories about "his mate ‘Trubbers’ who used to fly it from the beginning
