  1. Thanks guys - apologies for the delayed reply, but for some reason I've not been getting notifications on this. Roger Ferris has also been very helpful and I see he's also put a note in the latest edition of TR Action. I'm going to see if I can dig out any more photos next time up up at the mother-in-law, hopefully showing the full number plate! Cheers Steve

Hi all I have dropped a note to Roger Ferris but thought I would also try here - I recently discovered that my father-in-law (now deceased) used to own a TR5 and I was wondering if it was still around and in the register. I was going through some old slides from 1971 with my wife and there were pictures of a white TR5, registration ??H 910G (unfortunately the first part of the plate is obscured by my 6 year old wife and her brother!). If it is still on the road I’m more than happy to send on scans of the slides if the current owner is interested. Cheers Steve
  3. I've always found Andy & Richard at Rees Bros very helpful and they will happily advise you on key things to check if this is your first TR6.
  4. Hi Stuart - I think we are talking about different things. I agree the Gates hose in the link is good for use on a PI system. When I said "R14" I was talking about hose to SAE J30 R14, which is a 50 psi rated hose. Steve
  5. Just be aware that R14 is not a high pressure fuel hose, so not suitable for the high pressure side of a PI system - but definitely ok for a low pressure filler connection! David - I’m not that far from you (Weybridge) so happy to help once lockdown eases. As others have said, it sounds like your first check is is the filler connections, easily accessed by removing the boot trim. I can recommend Rees Bros in Aldershot if you need a decent TR garage close by. You also have Crown Classics up in Twickenham. Welcome to TR6 ownership! Steve

  9. Hi Malcolm - welcome to the joys of TR ownership! As Colin says, Neil is the man for the PI system. Another useful contact for parts is Conrad ("Openroad" on this forum) - always worth dropping him a note to see what he has stored away... You may already be aware, but the Moss catalogue is a great source of technical info and drawings to identify parts - you can download a PDF from their website or they will post you a free paper copy.   10. Like (hopefully!) many of us, I have fire extinguishers in the garage and one in the TR. One of my lockdown activities has been clearing & painting the garage and during this I checked the dates on my extinguishers. Imagine my surprise when I found one was dated 1998 and another 2002! Luckily, the car extinguisher was still in date. So, a quick trip to Screwfix and I now have 2 shiny new extinguishers. So - go check those extinguisher dates! UK regulations recommend that companies replace their extinguishers every 5 years. I'm no expert, so others may be along with better advice and

  12. Andrew - I agree, it just offended my OCD tendencies! I don't intend to go back and try and force fit thicker pads. More annoyed that I now need to get 2 more thin pads for the other side!
  13. They are #8 countersunk raised head 1-3/8” screws. Not sure how to describe the washers as they are not standard cup washers.
  14. Thanks for all your replies. I went to change the pads today and found a thin pad above & below the aluminium pad, instead of a thin one above and a thick one below. It was clearly going to take some force to create enough space for the proper pads, so I loosened the nut on the front chassis stud to provide more movement to find that only 1 thin pad had been used here instead of 2! At that point I decided to just go with a thin pad above & below the aluminium pad rather than, literally, force the issue. Always a voyage of discovery on a 48 year old car...Now I need to get 2 more thin

Hi all I found the slotted aluminium pad (item 95 in diagram) between the body and the near-side chassis front side brace had nearly escaped today, so I knocked it back into position and then torqued everything back up. However, as you can see from the second picture, while the aluminium pad is now back in position, the upper rubber pad (item 94) has split and needs replacing. So, my question is, how difficult a job is this? If I undo & remove the screw, is there enough give / flex between the body & the chassis brace for me to easily replace both rubber pads and then re-assembl

  19. Hi all I am looking to replace my rear damper links and there are upgraded ball joint options from Revington, CDD and Rimmers - has anyone any experience of these? Thanks Steve
  20. Hi John Here's a picture of mine, which is pretty standard, with about 1/2" visible below the rear valance. I'm sure this can vary if work has been done on the car, especially as the rear valance is a common rust victim... There is no substitute for checking out any purchase on a ramp, or at least having it jacked up so you can see underneath, but I realise this is not always possible. Cheers Steve

    Hi Richard As well as the suggestions above, make sure you sure you use new clips when you put the card back, don't try and re-use the old ones - they will have lost their "spring" (if that's the right term). Cheers Steve
