  1. It's strange how we spend money to keep the dog, £500 telly, the spare bedroom we haven't even been in for years and the wife warm and dry but neglect our £20k (and often more) pride and joy. My garage was built to the same spec as my kitchen with insulted floor, walls, roof and door along with central heating. I told the wife it was in case we ever wanted to turn it into a study, and she fell for it. The Joker sits in there snug as a bug in a rug. Magic

  2. Making holes in a new plenum chamber for the s/c.

Back in the '50s grammar schools marginalised workshop subjects - mine had one woodworking lathe and no metalwork shop, and two hours per week.. So today, 55 years after a mis-spent schooling, was an adventure in a making holes in a 1/4 inch thick aluminium box section 3" square. On paper it bolts to a TR6 twin-carb manifold using the 8 carb stud tappings. So yesterday was spent with dykum ( another new experience) a scribe and a ruler, and a lens. I reckoned I was within 0.5mm of correct. Then the fun started. Centering a centre punch to 0.5mm is not so simple. But setting a 8mm drill dead centre on that - well, no-one ever taught me how to do that. The drill bit doesn't have a 'point', and its spiral... impossible. So I drilled 3mm holes centered with a lens. Then a stationary 8mm bit will bend ever so slighly when pressed onto the 3mm hole if off-centre. Very relieved that only two holes out of the 8 needed dremelling, And that they all lined up both ends of the manifold. The box slotted satisfyingly onto the manifold. . By contrast the hole I had dreaded, 2" diameter, was a doddle, using a hole saw in the pillar drill.

So altogether a new experience, if a bit late in life.

Never too old to learn something new, but a nervous afternoon I would think.

  3. Hi

I have decided to take out my gearbox again tomorrow to resolve my sticky clutch issue.

What parts should I grease with a smidgeon of copper ease and is there any other procedure I should be doing ie. polishing up etc.

    Many Thanks.

Chuck the B&B Transit clutch away and get a proper Leycock TR one

  4. More thanks to Derek, I have received a letter confirming new tax class, a receipt for £0 confirming my car is taxed until next March, V5C to follow, interestingly there is no mention of the £126 I paid to tax it 2 weeks ago  maybe it will come back with the V5C.

The main thing is its now free to tax for the next 40 years

    Result

    Huge thanks Derek

Just returned from Devon to find a cheque from Swansea for £95 so me a happy bunny.

  6. Dear Daz,

If you look at my response the one before yours send a copy of your heritage cert. to that dept in the DVLA along with your V10 & V5C by recorded delivery and ask them why have you had to pay £126 at the post office and can you have a refund? Lastly make sure that you also have copies of you V10 & V5C

    Bruce.

Thanks Bruce, that's just what I have done. I hope to get my money back but I really just want to get the taxation class sorted for next time. Money is only money, it cant make you smile like a 6 on a sunny day. I will report back when / if my paperwork ever returns

  7. Well I failed today at local main post office, my car is 74 built 75 reg, I have a heritage certificate, they didn't know what it was, I gave up, paid my £126 and will be posting the reg doc to Swansea. Main thing is I'm back on the road for spring and to be honest £126 is cheap after blasting round the A roads for an hour tonight I have had my monies worth already
