  1. Ah ha, brilliant, thank you
  2. Hello I need to get this cylinder out. I've got the push rod off, but it seems to me i need to take off the whole box surrounding both brake and clutch cylinders, in order to get at the lower bolt holding the cylinder on to the box. Is this right or is there something i am missing? Cheers Dave
  3. Hi It was new, but it did have something in there when i first fitted it, but coming to fit the knob sometime later it had disappeared. So either it broke and fell out, or it was a screw and came undone. I had done a lot of testing without the knob on, as i rewired all the lights, so i think it was of my own doing. A good look around again later on. Dave
  4. Hi It is a 3a, and the bit missing has come out of a new side/headlight switch. . Bit annoying. I can rig something up, but i did wonder how they were springy. Bobs pic shows how. Dave
  5. The little bit on a switch spindle, seems springy, that holds a knobs in place. I'm missing one. How are they held in? Can i get another? Cheers Dave
  6. To finish off: cleaned, lubricated and rewired switch, and replaced wiring connections (one old one was insulated with making tape), and all now working with a satisfying clunk somewhere under the tunnel. Thanks all for your help. Dave
  7. With reference to the first post.. 'A man of wealth and taste.' Dave
  8. Thank you Bob. Mine looks like the original. I'm still unclear how the wires attach. Are they poked up into rhe hole and then the screws applied from the top? Dave
  9. I can't find a pic either. Must be some sort of fitting i am missing. Thanks for your help Rob.
  10. It looks exactly like that. What's underneath the switch though? Dave
  11. After a bit of fiddling I discovered the pointy screws don't go all the way through the switch, they stop a few mil short, no contact made with wires or insulation. I must be missing something - a connecting piece or a fitting of some sort. Does anyone know what should be in there? Cheers Dave
  12. Hi Rob Are the wires supposed to be bare-ended or should the pointy screw go through the insulation, do you know? Dave ====
  13. I have just been reading a book about the Trans-Antarctic expedition in 1956/8. Led by Sir Vivian Fuchs and Sir Edmund Hilary. Hilary's group took 3 Ferguson TE20 tractors to the south pole, from Scott Base on the Ross Sea, setting off in Nov 57 arriving on 4th Jan 1958. These were TE20 Fergusons, modified with rubber and steel tracks fitted over the wheels. My little bit of research shows that TE20s had Standard engines and/or were built by Standard-Triumph. So my Triumph engine is good enough for polar exploration. I wonder if they are still there? Dave ====
  14. i cleaned and lubricated it and it seems to work well off the car. I shorted the two cable together while they were out of the switch and there was a healthy click, so that all looks good. The cables in the switch just had bare ends that the pointy screws were touching I guess. Seems a bit haphazard, are they supposed to be like that? I'll see how I get on before I look at your solution Bob. I've just about done the electrics, next job is the brakes. Nowhere near ready for starting or running yet. Cheers Dave
  15. Thanks Rob, I'll have a go at cleaning it up, before replacing it if needed. Cheers Dave ===
  16. Hello another wet day, no golf, so checking out my overdrive switch. I replaced the relay, and get 12v where appropriate. But when I switch to on, or off, i get nothing, no click, and I think no earthing. It is an original lute or pear shaped switch, and on taking it apart has some fancy spring/toggle mechanism, but it doesn't seem to swing properly from one terminal to the other. This is just supposed to be a simple on/off switch isn't it, nothing else clever going on? Cheers Dave
  17. Its still got the original mirror. Maybe not for much longer.
  18. Excelent thank you.
  19. Hi Stuart, thanks for the info. You don't have any pictures of the fitment and/or the reinforcing plates do you? Dave ===
  20. Hello, My 3A has no seat belts, and no sign of any ever being fitted. I think I would like some. Any recommendations? Cheers Dave
  21. Thanks everyone. I'll have a good look at those things. Cheers Dave
  22. Thanks Rob. I'll have an experiment i think, using your suggested ratings. I could really do with fitting an extra fuse box and maybe a relays holder as well - there must be such a thing. Cheers Dave I
