    Hi folks

1969 PI distributor which I think is original which has being reconditioned by Dizzy Doc and fitted with electronic ignition.

On examination it has a small knurled adjuster wheel I presume for advance/retarding the ignition. There is no vacuum connection/diaphragm.

Does this actually do anything or do you have to turn the whole body to adjust?

    Thanks

    Andy

Hi Andy, the vacuum connection should have a rubber plug over it and the knurled knob is as you say for advance and retard. A minute adjustment. IIRC there is an A one side and a R on the other.

I would hesitate to use anything magnetic, the reason being that I used to use a couple of magnetic strips, the type usually seen in commercial kitchens for holding knives etc, on the inside of the back doors of my van. Very useful for holding screwdrivers etc. However it was not long before the shape of the magnets on the inside could be seen on the outside as they attracted minute particles of metal, presumably cast iron from brake drums and discs, which started to rust. Also could not be simply rinsed away with a hosepipe without first detaching the magnets from inside the panel.

    Just a thought,

    Ralph

I agree with Ralph, back in the late 80s we had magnetic signs on our vans with the same problem. Rust particles eaten into the paintwork.

Yes Kev, still got the TR5 and going well.

Might see you at Malvern if you are going. We are.

    Mike

Hi Mike, yes we are going and staying in Ross on Wye and our friends are coming too. So it’ll be my mate and I going to Malvern. (He’s just bought a very nice Volvo P1800S which he might go in.) I’ll look out for you. Hope you and Cristalle are both well.

Which car are you going in?

    Kev.

Thanks Stuart. Unfortunately Hawk do not do pads for the Princess Callipers. Cambridge Motor Sports were very helpful, but don’t have any other suggestions for road use pads.

John, I see the Mintex 1155 pads show as mainly for track use. That is not for me.

If I find something better than Green Stuff, I will post here.

    Thanks guys

    Mike

Looks a nice car Mike, got to love a V8. Have you still got your 5?
    Cheers Kev.

Tippex or chalk must contain some very fine but solid material, which may or may not be caught by the filter, but certainly I don't want in  my  bearings!

I use a dab of grease on each adjuster screw as I do it, but use Vaseline, as that dissolves in engine oil where another grease may persist as lumps.
    John

John, it’s the smallest dot of tippex which is then wiped off when all done with a petrol moistened cloth.

Err … doesn’t the Milton leave a white residue if used on a material ? I’d have thought it would get into the fabric weave.

Not on the Z4 as there is a rubber under layer which then drains out the car. A good car wash  afterwards and everything is good. I’ve been doing it for years with no residue.

    Quick one folks,

anyone have any thought son how to remove mould

from a modern convertable top, that has to live outside all year round?

    John.

Hi John, on my Z4 I use 2 tablets of Milton sterilisation tablets in half a bucket of cold water - left them to dissolve for 15 minutes then gave it a good stir.  Use a nail/dish brush to go over the whole area and a tooth brush to concentrate on the spots.

    Hi Denis,

The original door pulls were glued onto the door, Not a good detail.

I have fitted 4a door pulls, (with Roger’s help on this forum) the holes for the nuts are present in your door shell.

This provides a much more robust door pull.

I did the same on my CP 6 and used These , they have been on for about 4years and held on very well so far.
