  2. Thank you, Peter! Another factoid to store away! John

  4. I would like to fit a steel gearbox cover to my 6 as part of my resto. Would one from an earlier model fit? I’m intending modifying to make it two piece. Has anyone got one for sale? Also I need a right hand drive dashboard backing plate. I,ll be at Donington Park race track Sunday. Regards Alan.
  5. Sorry to hear that John. Sadly, they're well practised. Just a few seconds of distraction, and a copy is made.
  6. You’ll speak in tongues if the hose comes off and dumps hot coolant everywhere.
  7. FS prefix meant it was from Falcon Stainless steel exhaust maker. TT prefix items came in mild steel only from another supplier. . The first few of the 6-3-1 sold by Triumph Tune I think were supplied by Gareth Thomas. They were copied by many. The rest is history.
  8. Bargain for the person rebuilding tired carbs. I have same in my carb spares box and did the swap to test trials like you. Just a point though….Part number on the box is AUC1170 which is for the 12 oz green spring. You must have decided they were the ones to get the right fuel flow across the rev range for your race engine. Easy to test the spring rate by pressing on a weight scales, if the coloured paint dab is faded or missing. For half weight changes in spring pressure add a 2 oz washer under the spring.
  9. Happy Easter to you too Marco. My first car was a side valve engined Morris Minor of 1948 vintage. Called series MM. That car had an engine of 1930’s derivation, it was 918cc producing 27.5 hp (20.5 kW) and 39 lb⋅ft (53 N⋅m) of torque. Cooling was by thermo syphon and fan. The water pump was only added if a heater was fitted. The car would happily run at 80 kph without overheating on a highway. If you kept up a speed of over 80 kph it would soon overheat I did that once and had to renew the head gasket. Progression for that car was the introduction of the ohv ‘
  10. These have been on my shelf since my racing days. SU Butec dash pot springs.. Red is standard for TR4 and 4A. Yellow is stronger. Easy to fit and try on a rolling road which is why I used to have a selection. These have probably been tried in this way but never used. No longer shiny but good. Two Pairs £10 plus postage. John Biggin
  11. Well After 54 years of (mainly) happy, (mainly) incident free motoring, having always paid my road tax and insurance, the bastards finally got me. My GLc was stolen off my drive, early on Monday 19th Februay, along with the approx £1300 worth (yeh, surprised the hell out of me) of stuff in it. The car was on Autotrader Guy rang on Sunday to ask if he could come and see it. Yes, said I. 2 Eastern European looking guys turned up . . . .tidy, polite and looking at a gullible git. I never left them alone with the unlocked vehicle and kept a close eye on the both of them . . . . . I
  12. That is a nice piece of pipe bending
  13. What you want is this. Stuart.
  14. I didn't say you can't get modern colours in cellulose just that you aren't supposed to use it on modern cars. Impossible to police. I read this on a sign at the paint suppliers earlier this week.
  15. Yes whatever you do dont take your foot off in a corner with a Porsche as they will just swap ends and throw you into the scenery. Stuart.
  16. Tried it and its close but no cigar Im afraid Richard Crewe Read had a grille done and other parts and it looked OK but obviously not the same shine. Stuart.
  17. To maintain a good finish has anyone thought about powder coating the capping in a colour like anodised aluminium, or even body colour (Matt black on a modern) I'll get my anorak.
  18. Only problem with polishing is you go through the anodising so to maintain the look you do need to keep polishing though a thin coat of a good all weather lacquer might work. Stuart.
  19. Thanks Pete I hadn't considered that. I haven't had a good swage for ages, if ever. I'll see what happens when eventually my car runs. Probably next year. Dave.
  20. The ram pipes look even better if poking through the bonnet.
  21. Did you Bondarust first? if not then I wouldnt leave it too long in that etch with the amount of damp round these days. Stuart.
  22. TriumphTune described the TT1200 as an "Extractor" manifold, but classified it as "Road" type. It collects the front three and back three cylinder primaries into two tail pipes, so cannot work in the same way as I described above. They also did a long primary "Competition" version, FS1230 (why not a TT designation?) while their TT1240 was a true 6-3-1 extractor. JOhn
  23. Yes as Mick stated I have Dellortos fitted to mine, now running 89mm so I did have to alter the original settings from when it was on 87mm and up to 34 chokes as well, properly set up it will just tootle around at very low RPM in quite high gears but as some of our local group will attest it leaves most standing and will keep with a tripe Webber TR5 up to over the ton. Gets a bit light on the front at 115 It does take a lot of setting up to achieve what you want and unless you are going to actually use the performance then SU`s do a great job anyway. FWIW if anyone is interested I d
  24. Consider swaging a flare on the plain end of your new bulkhead fittings to give a better chance of the hose sealing. All this waffle about coating the adaptor with gasket sealant is a sticking plaster for pipes that are too small for the hoses due to metrication. From another post….. The fitting I had to swage was stainless. The clamp part of the tool I have fitted snuggly and then I formed a simple flare to the tube to increase its final diameter. Be sure to remove any nicks or burrs from the tube end that could cut the hose. I have just done a dummy test on my
  25. when I ordered my TR6 new in 1973 on BL' s friends and family scheme there was an option of having Dunlop SP Sort or Michelin XAS. I did not have that choice because BL had big trouble with the SP Sport tires breaking up on the German Auto bahns. So I got XAS I was very happy with them and they lasted a long time and gave good road holding but they were very noisy on certain road surfaces. Bruce.
  26. Hello Just plumbing in my new T7 heater, and renewed the bulkhead pipe adaptors. Here are the pictures of the old ones. The input adaptor was full of pink gunk like turkish delight. Nothing has been down that tube for years. Dave
