Drive It Day to the Atwell Museum

Join the club on a trip to the Atwell- Wilson Museum in Calne for Drive It Day.

This is a reasonably sized charity run car museum. They are proposing to offering drinks and food but this is not yet finalised.  We intend to have lunch elsewhere and will be sorting this out later. 

Drive it day is in aid of the NSPCC Childline, to raise money to support vulnerable children.

We are planning to meet at 9.45 in the Waitrose car park, Bath Road Newbury, RG14 1NB for a 10.00 start. ( Don’t be confused if you meet other Triumphs on the day, as the Newbury TSSC are meeting here also !)

It will then be a relaxed 30 mile drive down the A4 past Hungerford and through Marlborough, getting to the museum at approx. 11.00.

Allowing an hour or so to go round the museum, and another hour or so for lunch, we will be ready to leave by 1.30 or so.

From then we have a few options, which you can choose from on the day.

The first is to visit the Avebury Stone Circle. This is 6 miles on the way back, and a mile off the A4. Older than Stonehenge but not so big, though they are taller than me. These are free to walk round, but the National Trust car park is £7 or free for members. (If you are joint members you can get two tickets and share one with a friend !) There are also a café and toilets here.

Or you can go to the Crofton Pumping Station, SN8 3DW. 20 miles back and 5 miles off the A4. The steam engines will be operating on the day till 15.00. Entry to the site and car parking is free. Entry into the Engine House is normally £12.50, but on the day it will be £6.50 for the driver. Or you can just walk round the cars or down to the Kennet & Avon Canal, or have a coffee in the cafe. They are expecting at least 200 cars through the day. croftonbeamengines.org

Or you can just stop into Cobbs Farm Shop. RG17 0SP. 20 miles back from the museum and on the A4 for a coffee.

Or you can go straight back home.
